Narhome Manor
Narhome is the largest of the personal estates owned by Lord Torum am Nari within the area of the City of Rickmo. The manor house is located just a mile downstream (generally east) of the City and sits on more than 900 acres of fertile farmland that produce the vast quantities of meat, grain, ale and fish that the manor demands.
Within the manor's holdings is the Village of Manorside, where many of the servants and staff of the Manor reside.
Purpose / Function
The primary residence of Lord Torum am Nari and the seat of his official office.
Design
The Manor is a square castle built in the middle of a small lake known as Green Pond and is roughly 180' to a side, with a 40' high round tower at each corner and a 40' wide gate tower at the north and south sides, and an 80' wide keep built into the east wall. The southern gate tower has access for boats and barges only, while the north gate tower gives access to a stone arch drawbridge that can no longer be raised in the event of attack due to mechanical neglect.
Sensory & Appearance
The Manor is as clean and functional as it can be, given the state of the structure overall. Crumbling mortar, cracked and heaved flagstones, mold and mildew stains, rotted floors are all covered up with lime wash, expensive rugs or tapestries, or ignored completely.
Denizens
The Manor has a staff of nearly 40 people, but only 9 of them actually live within the castle.
Defenses
The Manor is an old and much neglected castle built on a small lake connected by a canal to the Calas River. While much of the structure is still functional, it is by no means a defended fortification. The Lord does not man the walls, secure the gate or patrol the grounds at all. The token guards housed at the Manor are typically drunk dawn to dusk and are as unmotivated and poorly trained as one could imagine.
History
Built by the Lord's grandfather, Duke Torn am Nari, as a hunting lodge for his family's use as well as a functional defense against attack, Narhome was a small but very effective means of projecting force and control over a large portion of the Duchy's western edge. Since the former Duke's death, however, the Manor has fallen into a state of real neglect. Since it is built completely on the small lake known as Green Pond, the moisture associated with such a location has taken a real toll on the structure and its contents.
