Mental characteristics
Personal history
Over the course of the last decade or more, Harwen has managed to embezzle more than 1,000 guilders a year from the purses of his Lord Torum and his Duke, Turl am Nari. In an attempt to ensure that his many years of theft are not discovered, he quietly brought elements of the nefarious criminal organization known as the Lovelies into the operations of much of the river trade still operating on the docks of the City of Rickmo. This has now proven to be a very bad idea on his part because his theft is not only known to Oswyn Lovely but can be empirically proven by him to whomever he chooses to share it with. This means that the personal fortune and personal safety of Harwen is completely within the Lovelies hands.
Intellectual Characteristics
Harwen is exceptionally good with books and ledgers, and has a capacity to both understand and manipulate data nearly instantly. His slow and methodical theft of mountains of gold from the Nari Family has made him very, very rich but has placed him in a position where, should his theft be discovered, his suffering at the hands of his victims would be legendary.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Harwen is slowly bleeding his lord and master, Torum am Nari, of a sizable fortune in gold and silver. As the Steward of Narhome Manor, Harwen has direct access to the purse and accounts of Torum and his entire personal fortune. He routinely embezzles between 40 and 60 guilders each month, in addition to his official salary of more than 80 guilders a month. Over the course of his eleven-year career as Steward of Narhome Manor, he has stolen more than 13,200 guilders (nearly $1.7 million).
Wealth & Financial state
Since becoming Steward of Narhome Manor, Harwen has become a very, very wealthy man. His problem is that he has no means by which he can currently (or, seemingly, ever in the future) enjoy his wealth. No amount of imaginative bookkeeping could hope to hide the fact that he has far more money in his personal possession than Lord Torum does himself, and now he facing the prospect of having to pay off the Lovelies to keep his secrets, as well.
