Dalbrok Clan

The Dalbrok Clan is an association of various clans and families focused on a territory in the extreme south-east of Colo. Bordered on the north by the territories of the Benkory Clan and the Dalnyall Clan and to the south by the Duchy of Hekmo and the Duchy of Len Doa of the High Kingdom of Imesse.

The total territory controlled by the Dalbrok is just over 1,100 square miles, or slightly smaller than the State of Rhode Island. The coastal area of the territory constitutes just over 16 miles, stretching from the mouth of the Torn River in the north to the Dorn River in the south. From the coast, the territory stretches to the west for 68 miles to the southern-most extent of the Torn River valley. At its widest point, the territory is 23 miles north-to-south. The Dalbrok territory is bordered by rivers and sea for all but 20 miles between the headwaters of the Dorn River and the western-most extent of the territory, generally referred to as the "Dorn Gap".

Structure

The Clan is ruled by the Ryuri or "clan king". His is the ultimate authority in all matters pertaining to the Clan as a whole, including all matters civil and criminal. He appoints and names administrators and vassals as he sees fit.

Culture

Like all of the other clans of Colo the Dalbrok have a fierce and deep sense of independence, and will fight to defend that independence. They enjoy a culture of generosity and cooperation amongst themselves and their fellow clans, and only attack and invasion by foreign peoples keeps them from following their cultural inclinations with peoples to the south.

Demography and Population

The Dalbrok Clan counts more than 70,000 souls as sworn members. Most of these are Human but along the Dorn River are several communities of Halflings that number as many as 9,000.

Territories

The territory of the Dalbrok is found between the Dorn River in the south and the Torn River in the north. It is a small territory compared to their larger neighboring clans, but it is a fertile land with excellent access to the sea and its trade. Covering only about 1,100 square miles and controlling only 16 miles of coastline, the territory is relatively small but is exceptionally productive. Farms and farming-oriented tuaths are larger and more numerous than in Clans further into the interior and the number of cattle and horses raised within the Dalbrok lands routinely exceed the humanoid populations by a factor of three.

Military

There are few towns in the Dalbrok territory (in fact, only two) and only one city, the Brokshold on the coast. All are fortified and their residents are all capable fighters. The many villages of the Dalbrok, called tuaths, are also fortified and capable of withstanding significant periods of siege or attack. All these settlements are able and required to field a number of armed and armored men in the defense of the entire territory, should the Ryuri call for them.

Religion

The only members of the Dalbrok Clan that do not completely adhere to the Maranonic Faith are Gnomes, and that is only because they see no distinction between adherence to the Gnomish Religion and the observance of all Maranonic practices and rituals. The vast majority of all Clan members are faithful observes of the Song of Life scriptures and the god Maranon.

Foreign Relations

Of all the coastal Clans of Colo, none have a busier or more productive trade association with the Thall Islands than the Dalbrok Clan. The ships of Brokshold take ivory, timber, wine, and exotic meats to the islands and return with steel, tea, furs and Entelodon meats and sausages.

Laws

The Dalbrok have gone further than any other clan of Colo to limit the slave trade within their territory. The sale of slaves is strictly limited to Colians convicted of crimes by the Ryuri himself, and not by any other means. Captured sailors or merchants are not allowed to be sold or traded as slaves, under penalty of the same.

The symbol of the Dalbrok Clan is the wolf
