Jardersfell

The Shattered Islands are a chain of islands in the northern Broken Sea. The Shattered Islands were formed during the Second Sundering when the gods caused storms which made the Broken Sea unsailable and caused the single island to irreversibly flood. They are a cold and harsh land with rocky coastlines, thick forests, treacherous mountains, and even some active volcanos. The Shattered Islands are where the Fellmen of Jardersfell reside.   The Fellmen are a proud and adventurous humans who are mostly known for traveling the Broken Sea in search of plunder and thralls. They raid up and down the coasts of both Kadrun and Methas taking both gold and thralls. Fellmen are known to be brave and ferocious warriors who will fight until death takes them, but they are also great explorers and storytellers. Honor plays a large part in their culture and for the Fellmen, dishonor is often a worse fate than death. At least, according to the Fellmen, a person who dies an honorable death in battle will join the gods to feast at their mead halls. Women in Jardersfell are often trained to fight and will often be part of raiding expeditions or on the battlefields during wars. These women are called shieldmaidens.   The islands of Jardersfell are usually lead by a Jarl of the ruling clan with some of the larger islands having more than one Jarl because the island is split up between two or more clans. All of these Jarls answer to a king who is chosen based on a great deed he (or she) they’ve done. The kingship of Jardersfell is no hereditary although it is possible for the child of the previous king to become king if his deed is good enough.

Structure

Each Island of Jardersfell is ruled by a Jarl of the ruling clan or, in the case of larger islands, the island is split between two Jarls of the two most prominent clans. Each Jarl rules over their clan and Jarldom and settles disputes between the people in his Jarldom or appoints officials to settle the disputes. The Jarl also is responsible for organizing raids of trading ship or areas on the mainland.   The Jarls answer to a King that is chosen when the previous king dies or, in rare cases, abdicates. The King is chosen based on a great deed that he's done. The Kingship of Jardersfell is not hereditary although it is possible for the child of the previous king to become king if his deed is good enough.

Public Agenda

The primary goal of the people of Jardersfell is survival. They live in a harsh land and eking out a living is quite difficult. The Fellmen raid ships in the Broken Sea and the coasts to help sustain their existence in such a harsh land.
