Jarl
Jarl is the name of a noble title in Jardersfell that rule a domain called a jarldom. The title of Jarl is typically hereditary and are often passed down to the oldest living son of the reigning Jarl. There have been cases of the title passing to the younger male children if the oldest child is deemed to be unfit or other male relatives if there are no male children. It is not uncommon for there to be succession wars for the title if a Jarl has more than one strong child that can gain popular support.
Jarls serve under the King of Jardersfell, but they have a large degree of autonomy compared to those who old titles of a similar rank in other realms. They can be called to provide military aid by the King.
The other benefits for holding the title of Jarl is that the holder can be considered as a candidate for the King of Jardersfell when the current King dies or abdicates and the holder gets a vote on the election of the King of Jardersfell.
