Zekolon
A biomechanical, sentient species that was engineered specifically for battle by the Purity of the Stars.
They are similar to large, hovering aircraft that can also land. Most of the gravity is cancelled by Graviton Wave Refraction, which reduces energy strain on a Zekolon's body in flight. For sustenance, they feed on a unique compound called bio-kerosene that contains a lot of energy, nutrients and mechanical materials to aid in mechanical repairs. The compound is named such because it is reminscient of a form of primitive aircraft fuel once used by many cultures of the HF.
They also have chips built into their bodies to allow them to telepathically interface with most Hyperion Federation technology and to enter Virtual Universes.
They have several heads, all of which have various kinds of weapons such as chainguns, photon cannons, missiles and more. Exact composition depends on the Zekolon's ancestory but they are quite modular allowing weapons to be replaced for various roles.
Their bodies are also designed with a large amount of redundant systems. It can take several anti air weapons to kill one, considering the strong armour that covers the entire creature. This is usually a layer of skin and strong meat covering heavy TGX Composite armour.
Their bodies give off a strong heat signature in comparison to other organisms due to the high energies involved. A zekolon's signature is weak in comparison to a vehicle powered by antimatter.

Genetics and Reproduction
They were also engineered to grow and reproduce rapidly. In the earlier stages of their life, they learn to fly and shoot and are fed large quantities of bio-kerosene to grow very fast. They can reach adulthood in 6 years at which point they grow to about 20 m long. Zekolons are completely asexual. A couple will lay large eggs. This requires a lot of effort on both sides, but an egg can be built in about 1 day.
Those of the PotS are often put under accelerated evolutionary conditions. Weaker zekolons are often killed in battle, but stronger ones can return home more often which allows them to reproduce. The species is sometimes used to train forces as well. Evolution is accelerated by making them reproduce rapidly and making their genome malleable.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Each head has several eyes. They can see in visible light, UV and infrared frequencies. This allows them to see in all weather. They can also hear sound as well as connect to HF QEC transmissions. They can also touch feel.
Biology
Bio-kerosene is actually a nutrient-filled slurry that has a significant deuterium content. The zekolons have a fusion reaction organ-machine which generates the vast majority of the body's power. Compared to antimatter engines it is quite low power. This gives the zekolon a low energy signature but can mean that they struggle to keep highly energy intensive equipment active. Most of the power of the body is directed towards the large drive units that are located in many points of their body for redundancy. The other purpose of bio-kerosene is to supply the zekolon's body with nutrients and materials to repair any technological damage. It is partially made of TGX composite nanoparticles. Due to their engineered and biomechanical nature, the zekolon will absorb more than half of the material ingested, but wasted material is recycled into more bio-kerosene if usable, but unusable parts and impurities are removed and turned into matter plasma. They lack any other form of digestive system organs and thus cannot eat like other organics can. In case of severe injury, they can seal veins very efectively to prevent them from bleeding out.
Zekolons will also have other organs such as large biomechanical pumps acting as hearts - located in a total of 8 seperate locations of their body - as well as 3 brains (only one is active normally) for redundancy. The biological nature of zekolons also mean they can adapt to most situations and make decisions based on stimuli. The ability to communicate to other zekolon and HF infantry forces can also prove highly useful. They are naturally very adaptive to body modifications and can serve a wide variety of roles just by modifying their TGX composite skin and/or replacing weaponry mounted to their exterior. Some have been deployed with Cloaking Devices.
In case of technological failure, the partly biological nature of their fusion reactor allows them to take control of their power source. Energy can be generated in a biological way making use of advanced electrocytes, which is mainly a backup energy source. Even their thrusters and graviton wave refraction can be controlled biologically even if mechanical components fail. The biological components are less likely to fail but if they do, mechanical equivalents can take over almost every task except perform brain functions. For this reason, chemical weapons have been known to kill zekolon. As such, future versions have been modified to filter air they take in closely.
They take in air from a number of channels on the top of the body, which can close. There are also filters which filter air that enters the body. Air is rapidly pumped (using both biological and mechanical pumps) through the several tubelike respiratory tracts that they have, which provide oxygen to the biological components of the creature. Used air is released downwards. Air is tested and monitored automatically as it enters the body, to ensure that it is clean and without toxic material. The air intakes also have attachment[ points on them allowing one to fit air tanks on a zekolon for deployment in conditions which might not have breathable air.br]
Although they have a single bio-kerosene intake, they store a large amount of this 'fuel' in an organ which resembles a fuel tank. Fuel from the tank is slowly sent through the creature's several redundant intestines which filter the fuel into nutrients, fusion reactor fuel and obtain biological energy, though they rely mainly on their fusion reactors for energy. They can vary their metabolism rate as conditions change and they can easily accelerate from this. The amount of fuel left is sensed by applying a constant but light pressure on the bio-kerosene. As liquids cannot compress, this force is what displaces it through the rest of the digestive system and it allows them to easily track the amount of fuel left in the chamber by measuring its volume. This sends a signal to the brain through the release of specific chemicals.
Every time they refuel, they a re also resupplied with ammunition. The zekolon have specially designed docking pads which allow them to perform this act almost fully autnomously. Ammunition is stored in various organs which have a number of sensors and rails that make reloading easy. This way, the amount of ammunition that a zekolon has can be felt directly by their organs, and they can instantly count the number of bullets that they have left using a biological calculator that is stored inside this organ. This allows a zekolon to track ammo economy perfectly and in real time. This figure is sent to the brains as electrical signals.
