Rho Tasralais III
A gas giant planet in the Rho Tasralas System.
Rho Tasralas III is considered relatively small for a gas giant, but is still of an immense scale in comparison to most other planets. The gas giant was exploited by the Hyperion Federation using gas giant lifting stations to extract hydrogen and other light gases. The gas giant also had an asteroid ring that was often mined. It provided the HF with a measure of almost every valuable, non-exotic material.
After the announcement of project Dyson Sphere Alpha, the mining efforts on the planet were escalated massively. They completely dismantled the asteroid ring and the gas giant's moons and used the gas giant itself to build additional sectors on Alpha. The gas giant was soon reduced to its core, which is extremely rich in metallic ores. This was investigated scientifically as this type of 'planet' class is very rare. This allowed it to survive until well after the Dyson sphere was completed, during this timeframe the cooling process has been recorded. It cooled down because it was no longer receiving sunlight after Alpha was built.
After that, it was dismantled along with most of the other planets in the system to build more structures on Alpha. This was one of the hardest planets to fully dismantle but also returned the most useful material of all the planets.
The orbit of Rho Tasralais III was also retrograde and at a significant angle. This was also of much scientific debate. The modern theory is that the planet originated as a rogue object from interstellar space that became large enough to have its own gravitational field before forming into a gas giant.
