Psi Kaus VIII
A very large gas giant of the Psi Kaus System.
As the largest planet in the system, it has accumulated a mass almost large enough to fuse material in its core, blurring the line between star and planet. As it releases a very small amount of energy, it appears slightly red.
However, the temperature around this radius from the star is approximately earthlike. The gas giant is slightly hotter than would be predicted for a planet of this radius. Although the original society of this system, the Zatenheim species, could not exploit it as they did not have gas giant exploitation technologies, the HF has done it after they joined them. This allows them to extract a large amount of materials and energy from the massive gas giant.
It is not visible from Psi Kaus IV because of the sheer distance. The native species would not see the low frequency radiation emitted by the world, only the UV radiation that is reflected from the sun.
The planet itself also has a number of significant features. The largest of these is a very large cloud-like entity that circles around the entire planet along the equator. It is still not known how this formed but it can make gas giant exploitation difficult as the extreme weather forces can effect the extraction cables.
This has giant also undergoes retrograde rotation which causes the sun to rise in the west and set in the east. It's also the first planet that formed in the system. It is quite useful for the HF to study to obtain an insight in the early stages of the systems formation.
