Kappa Carcia III

A planet in the Kappa Carcia System, which is jointly owned between the Tranal Nomads and Sulethis Republic.

Kappa Carcia III is habitable. Of all the planets in the system, it has the largest population and by far the most habitable conditions. The planet is quite cold relative to earth, but has an exotic type of microorganism that can ingest metals and incorporate them into themselves. This can cause large lumps of metal to form on the surface, but could also corrode some TN and SR structures. These metal lumps are often harvested, the organism used to decompose waste matter back into usable metal through photosynthesis. Kappa Carcia III can reprocess all of its waste this way, and even has the capacity to import a small amount of waste matter from other planets. It cannot take all the waste in the solar system though, that might result in a rapid decline of Kappa Carcia III's biosphere and the extinction of the organism.

Habitats on Kappa Carcia III require much less protection to keep the inhabitants safe from the alien conditions. However, they must also protect the structures from the organism, typically by placing a concrete-like material over almost all metal structures. This would both prevent the metal recycling organism from reaching the metal and undergoing photosynthesis if it does reach the metal.

They also use this planet for biotechnology research due to the abundance of several exotic lifeforms. Thousands of different species have been identified and classified by TN and SR scientists. However, they both had to go into significant efforts to make the planet safe to traverse, otherwise infections from the planet would infect them very easily, and vice versa. The antibiotic they invented was very advanced, intended to kill a much larger variety of microbes than on other planets due the massive diversity of life on the planet.

The TN has been very impressed by the sheer amount of data they have been able to obtain on the planet. This is partly because of the mobile nature of the star system, otherwise they would see the static nature of other planets as a significant weakness.
