'Pion' Photon Cannon
Large, heavy photon cannon of the Hyperion Federation. The weapon has an anti-tank role, as it relies on a feedback loop for damage. Photons fired at the target are reflected back to the weapon to cycle and fire again. This results in a buildup over time. The beam gets more powerful over time.
The Pion heavily relies on the user holding the beam on target for a set time. This makes it a very difficult weapon to kill with, but can be used to cause a great deal of damage to a heavier target, able to sustain a beam much larger than a weapon of its size should. This means that it is rarely used, but when it is it is used against very large objects and to great effect.
The Pion was inspired heavily by the Devastator Quantum-Looped Photon Cannon, where a Zekolon managed to design this weapon using scaled-down equipment and, surprisingly, managed to make it quite effective. Although the weapon the zekolon designed wasnt designed for use on zekolon, the Hyperion Federation had the foresight to design a similar weapon to replace this zekolon's main weapon with. The track record of this individual has since been impressive, managing to make his own cost about 12 times with the sheer number of heavy enemy vehicles it was able to destroy. The HF has giiven this individual a lot of credit for defending the HF from relentless Grand Artanat Empire attacks. Since then, many other zekolon have modified their bodies for a similar weapon.
Regardless, it has been made quite reliable with the use of very advanced materials which could withstand very heavy impacts which would otherwise destroy equipment of other factions. These weapons require a large amount of power when constantly changing targets or on target death, but are far more efficient when fired at the same target for extended periods as the energy requirement to redirect photons back towards the target is lower than that of creating new photons and firing those towards the enemy. Although the Pion can be overclocked, this is rarely done against any target short of a light ATV -sized vehicle.
