Golden Statuettes (SC'20)

Written by Steve Tremblay

In the city of Brightport, the 3 houses have shared control of the city for nearly a century. The city had been in turmoil for years since becoming more than just a town with a large port decided that the 3 largest trade factions would have more influence and control than any appointed mayor.   As a result, each of the 3 houses, House Hammerhand , House Darksbane and House Silverclaw were given a golden dragon statuette and each would control and benefit from 1/3 of the business in the city.   These golden dragons were required at the monthly meetings of the Houses, not being able to show it at the meeting would result in missing out on the share of the profits until it resurfaced and could be proven to still be in the Houses' possession.   Over the years there were many attempts to steal a dragon from another house but the terms strictly prohibit overt hostilities against another House, but that hasn't stopped an attempted hiring of a group to steal it so that it can be bought 'legitimately'.   Several years ago, that exact situation happened and the group was actually successful in stealing the statue from House Darksbane but the victory was short lived. Darksbane retaliated and a small war waged between the House and the group of adventurers ending with the adventurers killing everyone in the house and claiming it for their own. This story can be followed starting way back at Arc 1 - Episode #013 (search for Dungeons and Randomness where ever you get your podcasts)   Having overthrown the previous House owners and finding the statuette, the house was renamed to House Dragonkeep, known for the large white dragon that lived in the basement. Ownership was handed over to a trusted ally, Tessia Grimnas who stills maintains the House to current day.   There is a new force in the city that threatens the status quo. The Black Hand has been taking control of parts of the city and making a place for her organization in a way that threatens the very fabric of Brightport's existence.
