Akilno and Mosdenechrak

Where is Mosdenechrak?

The jewel of the region cluster north of Raul and Zyrine, in the plains between the north-central and south-central forests of Tachamund, Mosdenechrak is north of Kankorarl and Taithorkey, Enderenuskeld and Tanoriz, and Varsitra. It is south of Inadagedyn and Inaildoro and west of Chaith Plains.

How is Mosdenechrak classified?

Like most urban theomes, Mosdenechrak is a Benevolent theome which protects people quite well, though the hand of Fate is relatively gentle here by the standards of urban theomes.

What kind of population and economy does Mosdenechrak have?

A major stopping point for caravans crossing Tachamund laterally, as well as north-south trade from the populous port cities on the north and south coast of Tachamund in its longitude, Mosdenechrak is a major trade hub whose economy is shaped by the goods and services available in the region as well as by the needs of the merchants trading in those goods and services. The local productive economy is heavily focused on producing and processing foods, but the crossroads positioning of Mosdenechrak is truly famous (albeit pricy).

"If I may, this is the best town to be tourists rather than merchants in. The only excellent price in Mosdenechrak is the buying price for food, so don't hurry to market." - Choave the Caravan Leader

Mosdenechrak has a thriving temple district for meta-faiths. Querent-Querent has a very large library in the city and considers it a vital nexus point for long-distance travel, though geomancers who have served in multiple cities tend to loathe the Mosdenechrak posting. The problem is that the locals are very patriotic of their city! They loathe the idea of moving away from Mosdenechrak, which makes it very hard for Querent-Querent officers to gain regard as having successfully promoted migration between cities. The local Temple of Uttermost Dark has less intertheome prestige yet is doing unusually well for Uttermost Dark, with large, silent congregations showing up to every sermon. There are many varieties of dark-cloth garb available in the markets near the Darkest Temple for those who wish to show their devotion to the faith of darkness and silence.

One of the most noteable buildings in Mosdenechrak is the local Necromantic Academy. Mosdenechrak is one of the few Benevolent theomes where necromancers may study and practice openly, and so there are occasional respectable undead members of society as a result. Necromancers themselves say that Mosdenechrak is overnoted for this, as the local Academy is not exceptional among Necromantic Academies for anything save its open operation with the blessing of a local land god.

What is Akilno like?

Akilno rarely gives public appearances save as necessary to discourage specific worship of him. (Imagine a flaming sigil appearing in public and speaking with a booming voice, "RENDER ME NO WORSHIP.") In one of his longest speeches on record, he also once appeared to claim to be sympathetic to lesser divinities who fear that Fate is used as a kind of 'mind control', in which speech he boasted of the city's Willpower beacon. This appears to have been an attempt to establish himself as one of the land gods who can be regarded as 'doing it right' by not manipulating the minds of lesser divinities.

One of the more unusual points of fame that Akilno has, is that he has done the very unusual thing of offering resurrections to necromancers. Undead who travel to Mosdenechrak are occasionally brought fully back to life... for a while, at least. It isn't a state that necromancers can maintain indefinitely without ceasing to practice their art (for necromancy erodes life in a slow yet profound manner). A few of the necromancers who were brought back to life by Akilno claim that they are ex-necromancers who are glad to prefer eternal life with a functioning body to eternal life with necromantic arts.

When he does incarnate, Akilno is a flaming sigil that burns with a violet colored light. Calling to him is usually accomplished with a circle-leaping ritual taking several minutes of vigorous activity to perform. It will fail if observed by anyone who is not actively participating in the ritual, so that Akilno's manifestations are freely available yet only in private.

What is the Fate Beacon that Akilno maintains over Mosdenechrak?

The Willpower Beacon over Mosdenechrak provides a small benefit to Fate-skeptics all over Theoma. The effects of it are as hard to quantify as luck itself, but Willpower beacons mitigate curses and strengthen blessings for people who regard Fate as an unwanted intrusion upon their freedom of conscience.

"The farms are our great strength, and our great embarrassment. We don't locally produce much other than food, and the price of importing everything else can get steep. Yet we fuel our faith that way, and face eternity with unshakeable confidence." - A proud local
