Raul and Zyrine

Where is Zyrine?

The jewel of its region, Zyrine is a city-state located above the sea-cliffs on a promontory in a warm part of South Tachamund. The gigantic flaming sigil in the sky over Zyrine is occasionally accused of making it one of the only dry theomes in Tachamund as well, though other people consider Zyrine to offer welcome relief from the damp everywhere. Besides, it's not that dry. There's still a great salt-spray feeling on the maritime breezes that reach the shining clifftop city.

How is Zyrine classified?

Benevolent. VERY benevolent. Very PROUDLY benevolent. Raul is utterly in love with his own commitment to building a paradisic city. Fate is thickly woven here and it's a constricting weave that tries to bind everyone who visits into being what Zyrine needs to become a more perfect urban environment. Querent-Querent occasionally plays rescuer here by fishing people out of Zyrine who don't want to be exactly what the city's Fate wanted them to be, a service that is blessedly regarded by Raul as a positive.

Zyrine is also packed with angelic Abstracts. Raul doesn't talk to people except through his Abstracts. In Zyrine, every job that is necessary and not yet filled by a person is filled by a construct puppeteered by Raul. In fact, it's been discovered that Raul's angels can be ordered around for free labor by other organizations, and Raul will just make more to fill the positions that He originally regarded as necessary enough to produce an Abstract for it.

Due to the thickly woven positive Fate in Zyrine, it is almost unheard of for people to suffer accidents of any kind here, and crime is entirely unheard of.

What kind of population and economy does Zyrine have?

The psychic beacon over Zyrine is a "Visit Me" beacon, a common kind that protects people in distant theomes while beaconing them to visit the theome someday. This combined with the urbanist-loving attitude of Raul Himself encourages a massive population growth in Zyrine. The population and economy of Zyrine is accordingly very diverse. Even the sea-cliffs themselves are inhabited, as there is an occasionally missed Undertown populated by Veserus in half-flooded caves carved out for the purpose. The Zyrine Undertown is greatly beloved by the few tourists who discover it; while dank, it is also beautiful, and even the quite rare Myrghon and Myrskor have people living in Zyrine underground with the Veserus.

Zyrine is a very sprawling city which contains only deliberately preserved wilderness areas, such as the small forest directly underneath Raul himself, where the city splits in two along the coastline to open up a region of natural wilderness. There is no raw material exploitation in Zyrine, and so all raw materials for the city's industry have to be imported. There's a very active trade feeding the import/export needs of the large city that is built up here.

What is Raul like?

Raul is the gigantic flaming sigil in the sky over Zyrine. That's Raul. He's like the sun rising from the east or west over the horizon as one approaches the theome. Everyone can see him from anywhere in the theome, and past the edges of the theome he's visible even from other theomes. The huge city would brighten the night under him either way, but people blame the city's bright nights on the giant flying fiery sigil quite insistently. Perhaps they're right.

Although Zyrine has a very actively-managed Fate and throngs with Abstracts doing Raul's bidding, Raul can be a bit enigmatic. Raul does not move, talk, or express any kind of needs. There is no record of any kind of statement directly from Raul in recorded history. Yet people do have a very clear sense that Raul is a somewhat arrogant competitor among the "Benevolent" land gods, as Zyrine's thick weave of positive fates makes clear. The "Visit Me" beacon emphasizes this further as it draws people to visit the city from everywhere on (and under) Theoma.

Since he is essentially a geographic feature of the Theome and does not ever interact with other people, Raul has an unusual distinction among the Benevolent land gods: he has never created a life in Theoma. For this reason, Zyrine has very few children in it, and grows almost exclusively through immigration. He also grants no blessings to geomancers, though they often do visit for a while just to work with Querent-Querent in a theome where Querent-Querent provides interesting challenges beloved of many distant land gods. Working in Zyrine is a long-term investment for geomancers that makes working in other theomes thereafter more profitable for them.

What is the Fate Beacon that Raul maintains over Zyrine?

"Visit Me" Fate beacons are a common and fairly banal kind of Fate beacon. The beacon upholds the safety and prosperity of people who haven't visited Zyrine while subtly boosting references to Zyrine and thoughts of it in order to lure people to it. Dreams of Zyrine are reported primarily among people who have never visited it, and some people visit the theome just to make the beacon stop tampering with their life. "Visit Me" beacons greatly enhance the fame of the theomes that host them, yet maintain a distinctly negative reputation. Querent-Querent occasionally organizes long-distant tour packages for people who want to sweep "Visit Me" beacons out of their life.
