The Storm Coast

Geography

The Storm Coast is an area of about 1,000,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It is located in Ferelden on the east coast of Thedas.    The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven or eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (39 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres (92 ft) thick in places.

Fauna & Flora

The townsfolk of the Storm Coast once planted a variety of colorful plants in the autumnal season to brighten up the dull rocky soil. However, the summer storms came and washed away any hope of greenery coming to the coastline.    The only creature willing to live in this territory besides the seagulls is the Basalt Tilapia. After decades of living along the coastline, their exteriors have evolved to blend in with the surrounding rock, making them nearly invisible to the naked eye. They are also equipped with a hard, rugged exterior that will make any fisherman work for his catch.

Natural Resources

Once the Glintmar Mines produced wealth to the entire coastline, but now their only export is the hardy Basalt Tilapia.

History

The Storm Coast is a sparsely-populated stretch of shoreline along Lake Celestine . Ancient dwarven ruins dot the landscape which have been abandoned since the Towers Age as they were forced to seal the Deep Roads due to Darkspawn.   The entire coastline was sold to Kordillus Drakon if he could provide safe passage to The Sundermounts. Both sides of the deal were kept and now the coastline is under the protection of Ferelden.

Tourism

The Storm Coast was once owned by the Goragrax clan, a family of Dragonborn, but their power has been passed to the town guards creating a Stratocracy, in which the military of the coastline now governs all aspects of society.        The storm coast has two small towns connected by twin bridges Heatherbrook- A three tiered city with the weathly upper class living the high life, while the lower populace lives in poverty Stormbay- Smaller working class town once known for their bustling platinum mines, now resorts to fishing for income.
