Eleda

Eleda is the northernmost province of Halor, and is the seat of the Halori Empire.   Located east of Iphelon, Eleda is too far away from the isle to have direct lines of transport with the island, but experiences similar winter climates to the island itself.   Since the early 1400's, a blight has spread across Eleda, which the Church of the Unsung God attributes to the worship of the New Gods. While the Imperial Cult and Halori Empire are slow to come to a conclusion about the cause of the famine and ice age, the accusation remains a commonly accepted reasoning among everyday Halori citizens.   Fortunately, the Empire's southern provinces still produce enough food to feed the whole empire–if people are willing to tighten their belts–but each year the cold weather and seemingly supernatural blight spread further south, leaving more people in the cold. Tens of thousands have died due to lack of heat or food, and there are even rumors that Empress Luka is considering moving the seat of the Empire southward to avoid growing civil unrest, though both she and Empress Nota have made no public statement regarding this.   All the same, Eleda remains a beautiful land, with mountains capped with snow and steppes that, during summer, come to life with green shoots and wildlife (except where the blight has overtaken the land in recent years). In the more temperate regions, some evergreen forests grow and provide a living for woodsmen and hunters, while in the north and colder regions mining and skilled artisans dominate the economy. Although there were once farmers, the cooling and blight have forced them to adapt to new vocations or leave Eleda for greener pastures.
