Church of the Unsung God

Although the Church of the Unsung God often portrays itself to be one unified faith, the fact of the matter is that they are actually worship a pantheon of deities united in service to the Unsung God (also known as the Mourning God or the Silent God). Believed to be a True God and one of the creators, the Unsung God rarely intervenes in mortal affairs.
Membership in the church is a complicated affair. Although it considers everyone living within its domain as lay members of the church (and imposes its rules upon them), it has a series of different holy orders and ranks within them.
The most common in the public eye are the Flagellants, who power the Unsung God's servant deities with the sacrifice of their own blood and tears. Often driven to repent past deeds or forced into the order on account of their origin (many Grotesques wind up as Flagellants), the Flagellants are not as influential as their numbers and public face may seem.
The Godkeepers are the militant branch of the church and also the most powerful, since they uphold the charter of the Unsung God: hunting down followers of New Gods that do not limit their powers to accepting the sacrifices of the Flagellants. The belief among the Church of the Unsung God is that these deities suck life from the world, potentially causing the downfall of all mortals.
The Godkeepers are known to maintain a standing army, but are also willing to hire mercenaries and train agents to work in secret against their enemies. They worship a whole pantheon of deities that provide their elites with powers beyond mortal comprehension, and have expert sorcerers and occultists in their ranks, although they do this quietly and secretively.
