The Shulin Order
The Shulin Order is the only magical order that adheres purely to the path of serenity, and they have done so for many millenia.
Peace in stillness, Power in Serenity.
Path and Beliefs
The Shulin order adheres strictly to the path of serenity.
They believe in a meditative approach to magic, they focus on clearing their mind of emotions through meditation and other practices. They believe that the influence of emotion brings corruption to magic.
The mark of a true Shulin monk is when their eyes turn white.
They also believe in a conservative approach to cybernetics, opting to have a modest amount of implants, and most of their cybernetics are external and easily removable. They believe in discipline over anything else.
Goals
It is their goal to expand their belief system to all magic users in the galaxy, they prefer to do this on an ideological basis rather than a political one, even though they have become a political entity.
They hold much influence in the nation of Korrveth, where they are the sole legal magical organization.
Structure
They are organized into only three ranks.
Fledgelings, Monks, and Grand Ascendants.
Fledgelings are the students, the monks are the regular members, and the grand ascendants are the most powerful of them all. They have managed to achieve true inner peace, having cleansed themselves of emotion and attachment, reaching enlightenment.
Culture
The Shulin are known to only wear white, accented with the metal of armor, which they only wear when preparing for conflict. In times of peace, they wear wide robes.
Upon ascension to the rank of Monk, a Shulin has to have their head shaved, and keep it that way, man or woman. However, the men are known to grow beards.
The Shulin use Hardlight staves, they are equipped with crystals on both ends, one long blade, and one shorter one. These crystals generally produce white blades, if a white has properly reached a state of serenity.
Factions
All Shulin factions are legal, and work together to the benefit of the order.
Warriors: These are the best fighters of the order. Of course, they all learn to defend themselves and others, but these monks have spent their whole lives perfecting this one craft. They are the ones who perform the offensive tasks of the order.
Archivist: These monks focus on gathering and collecting information about magic, and anything else they can get their hands on, they mostly stay on Korrveth in the main Shulin temple, and tend to the Kukai collection.
Sentinal: This is also a warrior order, but they focus less on offense and more on defense to protect the Shulin temples, which is where they can be found.
They are known to hide their faces under masks.
Faction Relations
The Shulin order has managed to maintain positive relations with most of the other magical organizations, with the notable exception of the Rayth, who don't get along with anyone. The Greys are also neutral towards them, but haven't attempted to attack them, or invade their territory.
The Prophesy
The Shulin believe in a prophesy surrounding a sacred artifact of theirs, a white kukai in the shape of an icosohedron, they believe that one day, a special warrior will arrive at their temple, and will open it. This person is said to be the chosen one, who will bring balance to the galaxy.
The Shulin believe that this means that the path of Serenity will be spread across the galaxy.
