Hard Light

Mage Blade

Hard light is what is used by mages to create their distinctive magical blades. They are generally shaped like swords, a tradition started by the Karak, but different orders have taken to using different types of blades.

Function

Hardlight is nearly weightless, and the same color as the crystal used to make it. It is also a very hot material. Normally, it is about 500 degrees Celsius, but as it is maintained, its temperature increases. The quality of the crystal affects the speed at which it increases, as well as the skill of the mage, the surrounding matter, and the operating circuitry.
As it heats up, it becomes less stable, emitting sparks and starting to vibrate. When it reaches 5000 degrees Celsius, it disintegrates, sometimes violently.

The blades always emit sparks when coming in contact with other blades, but the hotter they are, the more sparks they emit. They are naturally very sharp and can cut through most forms of matter easily. When they cut an organic life form, the heat instantly cauterizes the wound. Despite being so hot, most of that heat is only in the surface, and it doesn't radiate a lot of that heat out.

Technology

There are different types of magical technology, those that need a mages input to do anything, and those that don't, Hard light is one of the technologies that require a mage to actually do anything, its not as simple as just funnaling mana into the crystal, it requires a mages intention and will in order to create hard light.

Colors

There are many colors that can result from alignment, they don't affect the hardlight itself, only how well the crystal reacts to the mage.

Yellow: This color signifies a content, calm, and happy soul, they might believe in something that gives them hope, and banishes doubt or fear.
Green: This color signifies that someone has a strong sense of trust, they have accepted the way of the galaxy, and are now concentrated on finding their place and purpose, or if they already have, on pursuing that goal or purpose.
Blue: This is the color of action, this person is a busy bee, working on their future, awed and inspired, by something or someone, dedicated to either themselves or something/someone else.

Orange: This is the color of willingness, to fight, to do harm, this person might do so out of optimism, or disapproval, or simply out of a lingering annoyance towards whatever it is they are fighting.

White: This is the color that has all colors in it, but also, with none of them, it signifies peace and tranquility, serenity, and an openness to whatever may come. This person has achieved a state of readiness unparalleled, and they are ready for anything, good or bad.
Black: This is the empty color, one with no colors, it is caused by the darkest and deepest of emotions, such as Hatred, deep seethed loathing towards other people or things, as well as grief, and fear, only those that have taken over the mind, and have become a major part of the mages personality.

Crystal Alignment

The Crustals are naturally translucent and may contain colorations from impurities. However, when one mage concentrates on the crystal and imposes his or her will on it, it changes color. The color is influenced by the mage's mental state, and their emotions, purposes, and many other things.

This process is called Crystal Alignment, and doing this makes your control of the crystal much better, increasing your ability to keep it from overheating.

It is possible to use another mages blade, but as mentioned, unless the crystal in question is aligned, it will not perform optimally. The color isn't the only thing that matters in alignment, it also syncs with the mages personality and personal casting signature, which is why it is always important to align a new crystal before using it.
