Korrvethian Republic

Korrveth is he smallest of the sovereign nations. They are the nation of Korrvethian humans, one of the earthlings, as they are called, humans who came here from Terra, via a sleeper ship. They have inhabited this planet for many thousands of years, they have been part of many nations, but since the collapse of power in this region, they have been an independent state.

Government

Korrveth is a democratic nation, they are led by a president. All provinces vote in the presidential elections, and when elected, the president rules for at least four years, after which they are subjected to a vote of confidence. If a majority of sixty percent are happy with the president, he gets to stay in office for another six years, making the maximum election term for any president ten years.
It is impossible for the same president to be elected more than once, if they do not stay after four years, that will be the end of their rule.

Provinces

Each major star system is incorporated into the state as a province. These provinces are led by locally elected stewards, who serve under the president.
All less-populated systems are categorized as territories, and they fall under state jurisdiction.

Territories

These territories don't see a lot of government action though, because most presidents focus their attention on the provinces, especially in their first four years, because they want to win approval and be allowed to stay in power.

This is why the territories are a hotbed for criminal activity.

Territorial planets are ruled by majors, who mostly have free reign to do whatever they want. There are some major territory planets, by even those have populations barely reaching one billion

Shulin Sanctuary

The Korrvethians are well known to be the guardians of the Shulin order, an order of magic that focuses on the path of Serenity, and the Korrvethians are very proud of this fact.
Shulin monks are seen with awe and reverence, and they serve a function as role models for the population, as well as sources of wisdom.

Culture

Korvethian culture is one of art and society. They place a lot of value on self-expression, and well-decorated spaces, going to art auctions is a national pastime, and they have a culture of trading art pieces, whether that be paintings, statues, or anything else, even though these two are the Korrvethian favorites.
Korrvethian art is praised across the galaxy, and it makes up a significant part of their exports.

Besides art, the Korrvethians like to spend their time together, and there are many establishments in their planets where they can do this, most popular are hologame halls, art exhibitions, and theme halls, places where people, or sometimes one person, have created an environment highlighting one or more themes, and people can see and admire these themes, and the objects that are associated with them. Other places just call them museums, or zoo's but a Korrvethian might take offense to that, insisting that they are more than that.

They are also known for their love of meditating, and their calm demeanor, that is, before the consumption of alcohol, which brings out their more wild personality.
Many who visit Korrveth might be surprised, because what the Korrvethians are most known for, art and inner peace, are not what they will find on most bars and clubs, of which there are many as well.

Demographics

Most Korrvethian citizens are Korrvethian by ethnicity as well, approximately 80% of them, but there is one other major ethnic group, the Laasim. They are a race of demi-humans, who are native to one of Korrveths second most populated planets, which is also the only planet that is a province, that has a majority Laasim population, about 55%.

The only other planets with a Laasim Majority are territories, because half of the Laasim live on territory planets.

This, combined with they strange furry appearance, a product of their adaptation to an unusually cold planet, have given them an unsavory reputation, and they are often regarded with prejudice and dislike, especially on planets where they are a small majority, which is most of the more populated planets.

The Korrvethian flag is a bicolor with a swan in the middle. The swan is the Korrvethian national animal, and to them it represents unity and elegance. The top half of the flag is blue, representing humanity, and their earthing originens, the bottom is violet, which is the color of Korrveth, representing their pride and wealth, and success as an independent state.

Statistics

About 100 of their planets account for 50 trillion by themselves, and around 9800 provincial planets account for 90% of their population, leaving the rest sparsely populated.
This gives the provincial planets an average population of 90 billion.

The territory planets are the remaining 72.000, sharing a population of 92 trillion, giving them an average population of 1.36 billion.

The planet Korrveth itself is well known as the second most populated planet in the galaxy, with a population of 1700 billion. They are also home to several more of the top 100 most populated planets, most notably, the planet Lasima, which is home to approximately 900 billion people.

This highlights a major aspect of Korrvethian society: they are a small state, and they have had to make do with what little they have for as long as they have existed. They use all resources available to them optimally, and they also utilize all space available to them optimally.

This has made them the wealthy and successful nation they are, despite the odds being stacked against them. Now, they enjoy the protection of the Terran state, which guarantees their continuing independence.
