Humanity
The Species of Many
Humanity is one of the galaxy's most widespread species, but also one of the least centralized ones, this is because of their history.
Humanity is one of the few species that used generational and sleeper ship to settle new planets, before the invention of the warp drive.
Demi-Humans
The demi-humans are those who used generational ships, spending thousands of years traveling through interstellar space, to settle on a new world.
These ships were called the Arks, they were vast structures, cutting edge technology at the time, which were equipped with enough fuel to last them half a million years traveling at speeds of around 20% that of light.
These ships could sustain around ten thousand people, and were equipped with farming station, and water purification, as well as air system, and everything required to be self sustaining for all that time.
These Arks were built in space, and were therefore not built to be able to take off from a planet's surface, but they were designed to land on a planet. This was because the Arks were meant to be the first home of humanity on whatever world they landed on.
Because of traveling for thousands of years, the Ark inhabitants changed, they adapted to living in space, even with the artificial gravity, but this isn't why they are called Demi-Humans.
Their final gift was that of genetic manipulation, they were granted the technology to edit their genome, to adapt themselves to live better on whatever planet they would end up. These genetic changes, all made to be purely practical, also had certain side effects, changing their appearances, and that is why they are called Demi-Humans.
There were fifty Ark Projects, only eight of them succeeded.
Earthlings
Earthlings call themselves his, because when they left Terra, it had still been called 'Earth' by the locals, these are the descendants of travelers on sleeper ships.
These ships were sent much later than the generational ones, after humanity had discovered cryogenic freezing technology. These ships were also faster, traveling close to half of light speed, still it took hundreds, if not thousands of years for them to find habitable planets, still they ended up all over the galaxy, and humanity spread with them.
The earthlings were also granted genetic editing technology, but this technology was also much more advanced at this time, and they didn't suffer any side effects.
These ships were also much more successful, of the fifty sent, forty were able to start a lasting settlent on a new planet.
Terrans
After sending generational and sleeper ships into the depths of space, humanity suffered a series of wars and calamities, including a rather vicious plague outbreak, which nearly wiped out the whole planet. This forced them to abandon their lunar and martian colonies, as well as their venetian project, and without support and supplies from their home planet, these colonies died out quickly.
The result was complete societal collapse and the regression of technology by hundreds, if not thousands, of years. By the time they were able to catch up to their former selves, many millennia had gone by, and they had all but forgotten about their past. It was also somewhere during this time that they adopted the name 'Terra' for their planet.
They rediscovered the remnants of their old colonies, and it was then that the empire dragged them into a galactic conflict. The empire practically enslaved them with the help of one of their own descendants, one of the Demi-Humans, who had long since achieved warp capacity and joined the galactic order.
This humiliation caused the Terrans to adopt a radical view of aliens, and they revolted against the empire the first chance they got, stealing, adapting, and using the empire's technologies against them in any way they could, going on many crusades in their home region, wiping out many of the natives.
They did so by compelling the Earthlings, the other humans, whom they had only recently found out about, to join them, and many of them did. Even many of the Demi-Humans joined their cause, and those that had betrayed them were subjugated, turned into battle slaves for the glory and survival of Terra.
Population Numbers
Humans Total: 8150 Trillion (22.3%)
Terrans: 5000 Trillion
Earthlings: 2350 Trillion
Demi-Humans: 800 Trillion
Terrans
There is a distinction between Terrans and Humans. Terrans identify with the Terran ethnicity, they are loyal to the homeland, and most of them live within the Terran Alliance. Then there are Humans, they do not identify as strongly with the homeland, mostly because of the genocide and atrocities committed during the Terran uprising, or perhaps just because they live too far away to have had anything to do with Terrans, either way, there is a difference.
The Demi-Humans may fall into either of these categories, this differs greatly per variety of demi-human, but they may refer to themselves as human or Terran. They also all have a separate name, telling what kind of demi-human they are, these names are most often the name of the planet they first landed on, chosen by their leaders at the time. But some named themselves after what their Ark was named.
Terran Plague
The Terrans are victims of a terrible affliction, and they call the scourge. It is no longer contagious in any way, but it is passed from parent to child, a kink they were never able to get rid of, even with modern technology. This scourge very simply takes control of their bodies when they die, granting them beast-like strength and ferocity. This is why, to this day, they burn their dead. They also sleep separately and in locked sleeping pods, so if one of them dies, they will remain locked in their pod.
They all wear a detector on their arm, like a bracelet, with a blue light on it, which turns orange if it detects life-threatening circumstances, and red when the wearer has died. All who carry the scourge are required to wear it, which is how Terrans are typically identified.
