The Rayth
The Rayth
The Rayth are the leading class of the Galactic Empire.
Passionate my will, powerfull my fists, Broken, my chains!
Path and Beliefs
The Rayth adhere exclusively to the path of Liberation.
They believe that emotion grants power, and passionate emotions grant greater power. They are taught to embrace emotion and passion, as they will make you stronger, which often results in Rayth harboring anger and hatred, especially towards other nations, but often, also each other.
They believe that strength and power are reflective of personal virtue, and therefore, they believe that only the most powerful should be allowed to succeed in their society.
Similarly, they believe that cybernetic technology is a useful tool to become more powerful, and they have no issues with using any and all methods available to become stronger. Exact philosophies differ among them, some believe that an entirely cybernetic body is pure overkill, and they stick with just enhancements, preffering to keep thier original body, while others are not afraid to go all the way.
May your heart shine brighter than the Stars!
Goals
The Rayth are the empire, and therefore it is their goal to maintain and expand the empire, and its influence wherever possible, as well as destroy all other mage orders who might be able to oppose them.
Structure
Anyone who bests a superior in single combat is allowed to claim their title, however, there are rules to this. Such a challenge has to be made officially, and you are only allowed to challenge direct superiors or individuals who are one rank above you. Occasionally, these rules are overlooked, especially in the lower ranks, where no one cares what happens.
The punishment of infraction against these rules is a trial by combat, fought against a champion or the person whom you offended.
Ranks
Different ranks hold different positions in the imperial government, but all the fully learned Rayth are leaders of some kind.
Rank | Description |
---|---|
Innitiate | Initiates are any individual who is sensed to have magical abilities, they are trained from a young age in large groups to learn to control their powers. When they turn ten, they are expected to compete from Apprentice ships, since only half of them will be allowed to ascend. |
Apprentice | Anyone with an above Apprentice rank may take an apprentice, but the higher the rank of your master, the better you will be tough, so competition is rough. Higher-ranked Rayth may offer to take apprentices of lower-ranked Rayth to become theirs instead. Apprentices are often used as field representatives or assassins. |
Commander, Captain, and Admiral | Are the two lower Rayth ranks most individuals will skip these ranks, because you can take your master's rank by defeating him or her in single combat. |
Grand Admiral and Marshal | These are the higher regular ranks, these are high military positions, and will earn the loyalty of lower ranked rayth, who will do things for them in exchange for power. |
Prince | Princes are the first of the royal ranks, the kings carefully select whoever makes it here, in order to avoid having any real competition, but sometimes someone is too powerful to be stopped, and that person is then usually also the one who becomes the next king. |
King | Kings are the elites of the empire, they are the Emperor's overseers who operate with large amounts of independence. |
Emperor | There is only one, and if it is a weak one, there will soon be another. |
The military ranks are where the vast majority of the Rayth are, for them the rule is, if you defeat a higher ranked Rayth, you become their rank, this isn't the same for Royal ranked Rayth, if you defeat one of them, they are demoted, if a prince is defeated, they are demoted to Marshal, if a king is defeated, they are killed, because they will seek revenge, and are considered too dangerous to be left alive.
These duels are held in sacred arenas, there are many of these spread throughout Empire space. Duels held outside of these arenas are not considered legitimate.
Culture
The Rayth are known for wearing black and red, as well as their over use of cybernetics. This is because there are many who would do anything for more power, so they can climb the ranks, but cybernetics can anloy get you so far, and the upper ranks of the order are mostly those with lesser cybernetics.
However, they do have a culture of cosmetic implants, these implants are normal ones with a function, but they are made to look impressive, or just cool.
They also have a strong dueling culture, even if it isn't to take someone's rank, but simply to prove yourself.
They also use Hardlight blades, but theirs are generally curved, as opposed to the Karek's straight blades. They also often have additional implants on their arms, for more blades.
Due to their ideology, their blades are generally orange, red, or black.
Factions
There are different factions within the Rayth, headed by the kings.
The Purists: They believe that Rayth law should be followed to the letter, and personal strength and power is the most important factor to them. They are the main branch of the Rayth, and they hold the most power.
The Syndicate: They believe that power comes from more than just ones self, they see power as something that builds up the more people believe in you, and therefore, more popular or charismatic individuals should be able to skip certain barriers, and get ahead, they also believe that if one person kills another in battle, arena or no arena, they should be granted the promotion.
The Syndicate is a shadow branch of the Rayth, and the rest of the order shuns and hates them, because of their flirting with the path of dedication.
The Extremists: They believe that strength trumps the law, and that the strongest shouldn't need to obey rules set for them by lesser men. They are the open opposition to the purists. They are also known to kill rivals in cold blood, but because this is not legal, they often do it in secret and cover it up, which means they lose out on the promotion, but at least the rival is removed. They are considered a dangerous group of insurgents, even tough they adhere to liberation strictly, they interpret it differently from the norm.
Unionists: They believe that passion should be a source of union, not conflict. They are generally considered a heretic group, and are killed when found. Their goal is the take over the Rayth from the inside out, and unify it with the rest of the Paths. However, they are frighteningly low in number.

Faction Relations
They have hostile relations with most other factions, especially the Shulin, the only order with which they have somewhat cordial, although distrustful, relations, is the Lumin order, and that is purely because of pragmatic reasoning.
