Rodrick VII

King of Ilandia, Archduke of Halton, Grave of Caldea, Prince of Sivenierre, Protector of Merovingia, saviour of the natives in Rodricksland, Rodrick William David Asuvitus Mary Joseph Of Velignes, the Discoverer

Social

Reign

His reign lasted from 1523 to his death in 1561, his rule was characterised by the systematic persecution of religious minorities in his country, as well as by his endless (naval) wars against all kinds of countries, including even the Shi Qu Dynasty. Another important feature of his rule was his support for the voyages of discovery of all kinds of explorers, of whom Alexander Asturgez is the most famous. His most important contribution, apart from the discovery of Asturgasia, was his effective centralisation policy, systematically taking power and land from his feudal lords and annexing more land himself. His successors have continued this strategy and so, in the 17th century, Ilandia became the most centralised and prosperous state in the world.

Quotes & Catchphrases
His two most famous quotes are very arrogant and give us a pretty good idea of how powerful and haughty the kings of Ilandia were at the time. For instance, he declared in a speech that the whole landmass west of the Western Sea belonged to him legitimately and that the other powers should not even consider establishing subsidiaries there, and his other famous quote was an insult to the powerful and feared Shi Qu Dynasty which he had defeated not long before in the Pitra War.
It appears there is a large body of land over the Western Sea. Well, I have claimed all of this land, so don't even think about it.
Rodrick VII in a statement to the King of Alsuc and the king of Romasia, 1533
I judge an empire's culture by its fleet, and therefore I deem the Shi Qu equal to the savages of Rodrickland.
Rodrick VII in the Rodrick's Public Record , after the Pitra War
