Vendil Dath'venn

History is filled with great people of every stripe. These people have great power of some sort, whose very presence shapes or shatters the very fabric of the Divine Weave. Despite mysterious stories to the contrary, Vendil Dath'venn is not one of these.   If asked, Vendil will proudly declare himself a master bard, world-renowned storyteller, and-- most of all-- a legendary lover. In fairness, his skills do earn him the admiration of many, and rarely does he pay for his own drink, but the truth of his tales is far different.

Physical Description

Body Features

As with many elves, Vendil Dath'venn is lean, with delicately carved features many would consider handsome. His main identifying features are his long white hair and very dramatic heterochromia. His perfect features are marred, albeit very slightly, by a crooked nose and scars over his lip.

Apparel & Accessories

His clothes seem to tow the line between being humble and dramatic. The shirt he always wears is a light brown color, but with puffy, white sleeves. On his chest, he wears a silver medallion depicting the holy symbol of Bellesmin, the god of beauty and art.   Slung across his back is a high-quality, but very travel-worn lute. On a belt he keeps two things. The first is a short sword kept in great condition, as if the weapon had never been drawn. The second is a pouch containing a travel journal he uses to write down any stories he encounters.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The early life of Vendil Dath'venn is shrouded in mystery. This is not because he won't speak of it, however. Indeed, there is very little in all the Twin Worlds he won't speak about. The problem is rather that these stories are rarely consistent. Where he is from, and his overall background vary wildly from telling to telling.   There are a few versions that seem to be his most popular. One version of his origin is that he was the son of the Matron of Sendil on the isle of Iv'arill, forced to flee due to a scandalous love affair with the Elder's daughter. Another states that he was simply the son of a vintner in the valley of Veille who dreamed of greatness. Yet another states that he fell to Amaun as a falling star. Clearly, these accounts cannot be trusted.   What is known and recorded by actually trustworthy sources is that he had somehow found his way to Whiteriver not long before the invasion of Ansarien Ill'conter. According to his account, he single-handedly led a secret revolt in the city before joining the fight alongside Eldain Mal'atre.   Most of what is known of his travels since come from his very unreliable accounts. These stories are very dramatic affairs, and contain such exploits as slaying dragons and rescuing damsels. The deeds he seems to love recounting more are the many tempestuous love affairs he has in all sorts of exotic locations.   Any actual reliable information on his travels usually come from guard reports, many of them involving drunken shenanigans or crimes committed against him. Others also know him from the many debts he owes people across the continent of Vald and beyond.

Accomplishments & Achievements

He is mostly known as a storyteller, and indeed, his stories have entertained people across the Twin Worlds. His stories often glorify himself, but he also tells tales of adventurers and heroes from throughout history. Eldain Mal'atre is the most common subject of these tales, but there are others, including Ratagar of Rall, Larrison and Avela Darkwood, and even Vord Ink-Heart among many, many more.   In addition to the stories he tells, he is also a very prolific writer. His most famous work is the epic poem Dominion and Defiance about the legendary travels of Eldain. The archmage has frequently spoken about its inaccuracies, but the legend remains. He also has a series of travel guides, the most popular being The Lover's Guide to the Twin Worlds, which includes the most comprehensive reviews of brothels found anywhere.   In addition to being a prolific writer of books, he is also a well-known songwriter. These include a heavily abbreviated version of "Dominion and Defiance" as well as "March of Phantoms" about the vengeance of Vord against the Legion of the Manticore.   In addition, he has written "The Whiteriver Lament", "The Darkwood Family", "Song of Candalia", and "Swords in the Dark" all about the Darkwood twins. These have a very uncharacteristic levels of accuracy in large part due to the carefully preserved journals of Avela Darkwood making their actual history more well-known.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

According to Vendil, himself, he is a master bard, with all that entails. This would make him both a powerful spellcaster and a deadly swordsman. Indeed, there are very few skills he does not claim to have utterly and thoroughly mastered, and he is known by many to be one of the greatest active adventurers in all the Twin Worlds.   Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. To his credit, he is a gifted storyteller and a talented minstrel. However, he is incapable of wielding bardic magic and he is a remarkably atrocious swordsman. All in all, he has no talent for the adventuring profession altogether.   In addition to this, his lack of intelligence and self-awareness frequently get him in trouble, although he has a remarkable gift for getting out of that trouble none the worse for wear. It is believed by those in the know that he has at least one god on his side, although which is a mystery that might never be revealed.
