Lesav

An inevitable part of the Twin Worlds Pantheon, are the dread gods of evil. These are gods of death, destruction, and fear, such as Vesh, the seductive goddess of ambition and murder, or Golath, the brutal god of rage and bloodlust. The most infamous of all is Lesav, the maimed goddess of vengeance and undeath.

Divine Domains

While the followers of her rival Ilovar primarily use the power of the grave, she grants her followers the power of death. This grants these priests the ability to bring death to the living and command the dead to do the bidding of her dread priests.

Divine Realm

When she was punished by the Great Divine, she was cast into the Red Prison of Carceri. Even the gods themselves often find themselves trapped on this grim plane. Lesav is no exception, and so this plane is her home, much as it is for any damned and traitorous soul cast there for their sins.   Her realm, known as the Plains of the Fall, rests on Minethys, the third layer of the plane. The biting sands of the desert outside give way to soft ash that falls like snow. A chill permeates the air that seems to cut into the very souls of those who visit, regardless of clothing or preparation. The winds that define that layer of Carceri are entirely gone, as if the air itself were dead.   The realm only has one settlement, the city of Cinis. Much like the rest of this realm, the city is no place for the living. The buildings seem austere and grim, and it is inhabited entirely by the undead. Most of these are mindless, but not all. Usually, these are Lesav's petitioners, but some of these walking corpses are all that remains of those wandering where they shouldn't be.

Artifacts

Her primary artifact of unholy power is the Ashen Crook. Once it was simply a shepherd's crook she carried to symbolize her stewardship over the dead. As she burned, so did it. As the sacred wood turned ashen, Lesav's hatred of the living infected it. As she fell, it fell to the Twin Worlds and into the hands of motals.   This artifact of evil had the powers of death and undeath. It had the power to slay the living with the merest touch, and even a layman could raise an army of the undead effortlessly. It also possessed a terrible curse. Any who wielded it would also be infected with the madness of Lesav. Slowly, they would come to try and murder the Twin Worlds, just as she once attempted.   This staff was destroyed after it fell into the hands of a necromancer named Mortis the Ashen. A group of adventurers then destroyed the artifact through methods now lost to history. Some remnants remain with a portion of the power of the original artifact. These dark relics are known as Ashen Shards, and still bear Lesav's curse.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

When Lesav was the legitimate goddess of death, her symbol was a shepherd's crook inside a diamond. Like the crook, itself, it symbolized her role as a guide of the dead. After her fall, the holy symbol became inverted to symbolize that very fall from grace.

Tenets of Faith

Lesav is a bitter, vengeful goddess and this is reflected in the tenets of her faith. The Lesavan faith teaches that the Twin Worlds are unworthy of life of must die. This is often made somewhat more specific, calling for bloody vengeance against those who have wronged the followers. This faith tends to attract those who have been deeply wronged by the world and seeking revenge against it.   Where the followers of Ilovar consider themselves to be servants of death, the followers of Lesav consider themselves to be its masters. They deem it holy to raise corpses to serve them, in mockery of Ilovar, who they believe to be a usurper of her rightful rulership over death, itself.

Physical Description

Body Features

Where once she was beautiful, after her fall Lesav became a hideous and terrible creature. Her eyes are milky-white orbs perpetually burning with hatred. The flesh of her body is charred and melted from her punishment at the hands of the Great Divine, much of it a fiery red, as if the fire that burned her had only just been extinguished.   She hides the horror she has become behind a thick black cloak. Usually in rare instances when she is depicted artistically, her face beneath her hood isn't shown through the darkness. Her followers in the Fraternity of Bone and Ash always show her face, however, unwilling to forget what happened to her.

Personal history

Once, Lesav was the goddess of death. She and her sister Selai were formed from the same essence from the nothing that existed before the Twin Worlds. Together they were goddesses of war and death, inseparable as they performed their duties.   All of this changed when Selai fell in love with a mortal warrior. She learned to value mortal life and grew determined to change her ways and become a protector and goddess of valor. Lesav saw this as a betrayal. She grew to hate mortals, seeing them as the vermin who took her sister from her. She became obsessed with murdering the Twin Worlds, and all life on them.   The Great Divine would not allow this to come to pass. He burned Lesav and cast her down to Carceri. The shepherd's crook she carried as a symbol of office fell from her hand to the mortal world, and it, corrupted by her madness became the terrible Ashen Crook. Her role as the goddess of death was then given to the judge Ilovar, the only mortal to ascend to godhood.   Down and lost, she raged against the Great Divine and all his creation. They would pay for the punishment she endured, and she became a mockery of what she once was to see it through, a creature of vengeance and undeath. What worshippers remained became the Fraternity of Bone and Ash, a deadly and fanatical cult, working her dread will on the Twin Worlds.
