Session 40: Into the darkness Report

General Summary

Grimmaz & Willhelm decided to go to the mine nearby. Before going they approached some miners and asked about the reputation of the mines. They were told that something was killing off miners and strange sounds were heard in it. A part had collapsed and this happened all the same especially where one tunnel wasn't fully blocked off. Rats & other vermin sometimes attacked too.   When they arrive they find a part that they can go down. This they were told is the way to problem area and had a disturbing way in. It consisted of a large hole that 2 skeletons were placed at and what appeared to have a rope held by the skeletons and affixed to stone rods beside them. The rope appeared to be human hair and human or humanoid skin strips together. Willhelm uses his new familiar (a quasit called Quatson) to take a look around and notices a set of clerical runes in the area used to try to keep something in.   They send Quasiton on down as a bat and make out that there is a tunnel leading away from the bottom where there is a larger room at one end. Smaller tunnels lead of fin different directions all being mined. A large crack is across the room and tone end is blocked off by a large stone black roughly cut to fit it. Two metal rings are driven into it to allow rope to be attached and move it. When they send Quatson down it sees one end effectively blocked off and a strange stone beam on the roof on down. It has strange designs carved into it.   They have the miners remove the stone and go to descend, having to pass through a poisonous gas cloud on the way there that soon dissipates. When passed they went on down into room with piles of skeletal remains in the corners and some personal items. Many are of different human & humanoid species. In the middle of the room is what appears to be a sacrificial altar and a spell scroll. Written around the altar is Deep Speech saying that it is used in rituals to Yog-Sogoth and the room used as a meeting room for the Lords of the Primordial Flesh. The spell scroll is used to cast a spell Hunger of Yog-Sogoth.   When they are looking at this, Kulug Jocki calls them over to a pit near the back of the room. There is a 5' by 5' by 5' hole behind it in the wall. In the pit is a piece of an amber sarcophagi of which Willhelm's patron describes as containing a portion of it's brother Yog-Sogoth. Grimmaz goes to destroy the amber, while Willhelm snatches it away on time. He wants to study it or so he says, but actually use it for more nefarious purposes. He has Quatson take it and turn invisible in a corner. By this time they have awakened the guardian of the room, a gelatinous cube that squeezes out of the hole in the wall. They quickly back up onto the alar and fight it. There they quickly dispatch it and Alfre notices a few bits of treasure in one corner. A scrap of paper is written in ogham symbols in tha Brythonic language stating that the writer was looking sources of a thing called the Mistletoe's Blood Clot, a substance that can be used to destroy evil if used correctly. None was found here, and most is exhausted in Europe with the rumour that a larger cache of it exists in the Middle East. This was wrote in roughly 100 AD.   At this point, they damage the writings on the altar, leave, and have it sealed up by the miners again. They make their way back to the village of Eschbach and talk to Father Tossil who warns them of the amber, and states that Willhelm had better be careful. Members of his family had worshipped idols made of amber found on the edges of the Baltic Sea and nothing was good came of it. This sadly nearly results in a fight between Willhelm, Tossil and the two monks who accompany the latter. This is partly due to Quasiton being present who Tossil correctly guesses is a demon.
