Session 39: Saving a Council Member
General Summary
After killing the vampiric wyrm and boasting about it in the tavern the group heads off to bed, the following morning Magnar is pretty groggy waking up. Magnar notices a strange smell in the kitchen near the fireplace, where a note is sticked with a knife. Some furniture is destroyed in the kitchen.
Mangar takes the note off the fireplace, the note reads; Bring the cloak of your friend to us in one piece to the fort of Eshbach in the Shadowfell. You have 1 day to do this or Anselma will die painfully.
Magnar frowns after reading the note and is looking for other/more clues.
Magnar takes the note and leaves the house, but while trying to take the note towards the others, the note disappears. Making Magnar scream very loudly in the road. A few locals and guard look curious towards Magnar like what is he doing...
Magnar knocks on the door furiously, and passing
Arne asks what the fuck is going on.
Magnar explains, they took Anselma. Arne asks who?, Magnar explains that he had a note earlier, and mentions that it's whoever wants that wretched clock back.
After a small conversation Arne goes outside to stop a few guards, explains the story to them and they ask Magnar for the details.
The guards see that the dagger design is Elven, from the sounds the last evening they thought it was a party. Besides that they mention that there seem to be 5 different individuals who where associated with the Anselmanapping.
The guards suggest to get some groups together and they also suggest to let the council know what happens.
Arne mentions that Anselma was close with Grimmaz, which magnar confirms. Thus Arne suggests to also get help from the lord as they are both close. Magnar decides to storm off, and Arne asks the guards to ask Archibald to also meet the group.
After the guards get Archi up and about. Magnar just storms into the council chambers. Inside the members are chatting among themselves.
Archi asks a possession of Anselma that he can use to find Anselma.
Magnar offers a handkerchief to Archi.
The guards point out that if the Shadowfell is related, they can talk to the people in the groove to get access to the Groove.
While stuff is going on, a traveller comes up to the road from the south. He gets directed to Eshbach by some goblins, once in the town the traveller sees a young heavy bulk guy coming out of a hut, followed by a lanky wizard, and a Kenku wearing a majestic cloak. Following the young group of 3 people, 2 guards come out of the hut.
The traveller picks up that some nasty people abducted someone towards the Shadowfell.
A gnome in leather armour with a spear and a bow on his back, with short cut hair sticking out in all directions. This 3 foot tall creatures is standing there in the middle of the street looking at the party.
And asks which one of you three is Grimmaz. Archi explains that he isn't Grimmaz, and assumes that the gnome is one of the helping hands that Archi called for. Timble introduces himself mentions that he came from the West.
Leaning in he whispers I'm actually tracking down Granny Adalwolf. Archi tempts the gnome that he can tell more about granny to Timble when he helps them.
Timble puts on a red cloak and gets introduced to everyone. The group heads on towards the Groove to get help from Emma Duckthorne to enter the Shadowfell.
Once there Timble waves to the druids, and then starts to make some waving and clocking noises to the lizard creature. The lizard type creature is the wyvern which makes contact with Timble.
Timble asks the Wyvern if he enjoys being here. The Wyvern makes known that it's treated well and that it's enjoying being there.
The druids take about an hour to open up a portal to the Shadowfell, afterwards Arne, followed by Archi, and lastly Timble all enter the Shadowfell. Timble has introduced himself in the mean-time to the members of the group (except maybe not Magnar, as he seems very angry still).
The Shadow Elves are not happy to see Arne and the other outlanders (but especially Arne). There are a few houses destroyed which the Elves mention that it is due to some rebels to the queen. They tore through and used that spot to go across to the outlanders world.
They are directed to the fort, where the group starts discussing tactics. Timble takes out another cloak (grey one this time with some emblem on it).
Timble walks up to the fort and at some point a few Shadow Elves come out of the fort towards the group. Mentioning that they brought the cloak. Asking if they want to exchange it there in the field or inside the fort.
Timble notice that the elves have a pouch with a blade on them.
Archi requests that they show Anselma is alright and alive. After a few minutes they drag out Anselma who is chained.
Timble decides to shoot an arrow and starts a fight. The leader and her four bodyguard ends up getting injured with a pile of thorns too.
The rest follow up, and Arne teleports Magnar into the actual fort.
They start to fight the Elves, and Magnar fights a guard inside.
Taking on the group of Shadar-Kai, and they shoot them with arrows, thorns, and magic eldritch Blasts & adamantine balls.
Magnar kills the guard and goes down the stairs. The guard and Anselma is at the bottom, and Magnar starts to fight. Disarming the Shadar-kai after he uses a spiked chain to threaten Magnar to back off or he will strangle Anselma with it.
After trying to overpower the Shadar-kai, Magnar accidentally loses his sword. Relying on unarmed combat, Magnar tries to get Anselma to move but grabs the enemy instead and kisses him.
Fighting on, Magnar and the Shadar-kai wrestle to the ground landing on Anselma. They look as if they are getting it on, and Anselma got suspicious.
Eventually they split off, and Magnar batters the Shadar-Kai to death, and frees Anselma. She lifts the keys and shows Magnar a chest in where she was held. It contains a large amount of gold.
Coming up top meet the others when the majority has been killed, a couple of them fleeing, and shadow mastiffs who played with Archi's balls before eating some of the corpses.
They find 25 gold coins and Bladed Pouch paraphernalia on them.
They leave and make it back, a bit battered, especially Timble and Magnar. Former got Eldritch Blasted in the ass by accident by Arne.
Timble is introduced to Grimmaz and told that Granny Adalwolf lies in a valley to the west past Warsaw in Slavic territory. Grimmaz says if she appeared in Eschbach, he'd kick her arse.
Archi says that he has history with Adalwolf and looking to sort her out too if that is any use. Also, he gets Timble to help out with apothecary work where needed for extra coin. And he gets an Apothecary's Assistant from the Papal State. The Assistant is called Edwardo di Gorgio.
