Session 29: Spying on Granny
General Summary
The guys are in The Eschbach Shields, and Rab runs up to the Council to get Anselma to write up cover for the investigation. Running back down, they are set to get the room investigated. Rab lets Baldwin know.
Mamae slips on up to the room while the rest try to work out what to do. She finds a small pouch with dried Feywild mushrooms and a piece of tartan containing a lock of Baobhan Sith hair.
Before she comes back down, Finnegan casts Invisibility on Magnar, Archie and Rab. They are trying to decide what to do when Mamae comes down with the items handing them over. Nobody is certain what these are for.
Archi also slips up, and crawls into the bed noticing a stinky smell, and something familiar about it. Below the bed he finds some mishappen clothing including a cloak that appears to be one worn by Granny Barrowbye.
He also finds a strange marionette in a box with strong magic and a curse on it. Tempted to take it he messages the rest and they "persuade" him to leave it. The thing reminds him of stories of a thing called the Black Eyed Marionette that curses the area it is found it. It can be destroyed in holy fire, at the church or grove.
The guys find out about Finnegan being a Warlock in a cursed pact with an Archfey, and hates Fey. He would happily see all Fey killed.
Arne breaks the invisibility, and they re enter the tavern. Shortly after the Granny comes back into the tavern and Magnar rushes upstairs to get Archi out. This happens when they jump out the window. Magnar grabs Archi when he jumps.
The guys decide to have all this looked at and go to the church. They find Edward, and he tells them that these are not one bit of good and to get deeper into what they are for.
They go there and are introduced to the Druidess Emma Duckthorne. She tells them that the mushrooms are used for healing balms, and the lock of hair is used for dark magic involving blood.
They are informed of the creatures the grove has and that both the Vanir and Celtic deities of Fertility & Nature. They also get to meet Alfre and she scolds Finnegan as he starts to prepare an Eldritch Blast.
They find out about the Granny has prayed at the grove early one morning. She spoke in Sylvan and called to her "great grandmother" and "wants the connection to her two sisters broken".
They think she may be more dangerous than thought, and needs dealt with.
