Session 26: Waylaid
General Summary
Archi wakes up to find Arne already up and tidying his room. The group had previously encountered the Baobhan Sith and managed to escape. Arne and Archi decide to visit the Church to check on the artifact's safety. Upon arrival, they notice a reduced number of guards. They learn that Father Tossil will soon return from Wein from Edward the monk. He requests that Archi return with Magnar in about 24 hours, as he has some important information to share with them.
The group decides to head to the Eschbach Shields for breakfast, where the keeper mentions a rough night due to a new toy—a Tabaxi who managed to capture a Shader Kai. Reolus had dragged them both to the jails near the barracks, but another Shader Kai was still hiding in town. Arne, noting the situation, decides to use Raven's vision within a one-mile radius to scout for the missing Shader Kai causing trouble.
Meanwhile, Magnar wakes up and heads to the church, where Edward the monk informs him that the group is at the Inn searching for Shader Kai. Archi, exploring the market area, finds a suspicious spot filled with cobwebs and flyers about keeping the place pure. Arne spots two dark-clothed figures in the crowd, one of whom seems suspicious, keeping themselves covered with black gloves.
The group moves to the crowd's centre and devises a ruse to scare the public. Archi transforms into a giant ape to frighten the people while Arne prepares a teleport spell to extract the Shader Kai from the crowd. The plan works, allowing them to use a vortex warp spell to teleport the Shader Kai to Arne.
Archi continues to scare the crowd, prompting the Burgeaters to draw their weapons, mainly shortswords and spears, targeting the Shader Kai. The Burgeaters approach, bind the Shader Kai, and drag it off to the barracks.
Reolus suggests that Magnar and Archi visit Edward the monk after the group signs a document detailing their assistance in helping the Burgeaters capture the Shader Kai. As Rikard emerges from the barracks, he hands over a note from the council, instructing them to keep an eye on a troublesome chicken that has been attempting to burn people's clothes.
The group decides to visit the church, with Archi still in his large ape form. Upon arrival, Edward reveals that he has discovered some old notes. These notes mention a sword embedded in a stone on the grounds of an ancient church. The church prepares everything needed for the journey, and afterward, Archi embraces Edward, the monk.
After setting out after about a day they should come across an old Roman settlement. After some travel time they come across 2 trees cut down onto the road. Arne mentions that someone seems to have lost his wood. At which point Chicken decides to burn it, but gets stopped by Magnar before being able to start a forest fire. Magner tries to investigate if he sees any tracks at which point an arrow flies past his head.
The group dismounts the horses after falling back a bit, at which point magnar suggest finding a different route or to take out the patrol ahead. A cloaked man comes closer and lowers his hood. There are a few others up in the trees holding their arrows notched on their bow aimed at the group. Or pay a gold coin per person to pass.
The group kills off the Saxons, when there's only 1 left Archi runs up to him and tries to make it tell where they keep the gold, the Saxon stabs Archi with his knife which makes Magnar flustered. However Magnar does kill the Saxon, pulling Archi off the knife of the Saxon.
Arne mentions that Archi has a weird way of reading other peoples minds by getting stabbed.
Archi uses a magic missile to end the Saxon.
