Session 24: The Wintery Infiltration

General Summary

Wandering into The Eschbach Shields is a character called Emeric von Styria. Appearing human and only known queues to his profession is specific marks known to the Thieves of Frankia. Arriving in town he has heard of the thriving adventuring groups here and the amount of traders and trading caravans travelling through. A perfect place to make coin and pick up rumours of strange cults and related groups.

At the same time Archi, Arne and Chicken wake up in the house realising that their usual wake up call hasn't appeared. Gathering together they decide to do the usual and head to The Eschbach Shields. It appears that Magnar has taken a trip back home with Anselma and has left a note on the door to say that no cider is to be left at the house. Arne changes it to say that cider is to be left.

They also debate as to what to do with Chicken because of her age and that she doesn't really communicate too much. The general thought is to sell her to slavers or maybe hand her over to the church. So, she slips off with a caravan leaving town, then slips into the grove to talk to Druidess Emma Duckthorne.

Archi and Arne run into Emeric von Styria realising he may have skills that could be of use to their little party. They get him to join while Baldwin sorts out their food. It's on the house for Emeric being "one of them". They are told they may be of use to something the Thieves Guild recently discovered.

Finishing off, they leave and notice that Chicken has slipped off from them. Finding her at the grove Emma has given her a magic potion after partially treating her last time. Chicken drinks it and grows up till the age of 14. They find out her name and then Arne takes the piss out of Archi.

They are approached by the Half Orc bouncer friend of Baldwin. He tells them that a mysterious nun has appeared at the church and they found a Bladed Pouch camp in the south.

The Bladed Pouch members had been killed by Baobhan Sith who made off, and Shadar-Kai had arrived. It looks that the Shadar-Kai were rebels working with the Bladed Pouch and arrived too late to help them.

The adventurers go to the church first to check on the nun. She is present and helping Edward the Monk to tidy up after morning mass. She seems to have a strange accent and speaks in Anglo Saxon to Edward. He takes them to one of the back rooms, and pulls out a bottle and gives everyone a taste of it. It tastes something like Scotch and comes from the far north. He tells them that the nun is travelling through on a pilgrimage to Rome and staying with them until she learns a bit more about the vault.

They leave and head south where they find the remains of the Bladed Pouch camp. It looks like the Shadar-Kai done some tidying up but didn't remove their footprints. There was a struggle between the Bladed Pouch and the Baobhan Sith. The formers bodies are still lying there to act as a warning to other members to scare them off. They will be quietly disposed off. The latter took off changing into crows and took in a northern direction. The guys also find leaflets used by Shadar0Kai to try to stir up racial tensions in Eschbach, and sems to be why both them and the Bladed Pouch are there.

They go back to town and rest up for the next morning.

Then they got up and go to go north to try to find the Baobhan Sith who fled north. They are rumoured to be just a few miles north of the road. Also, they find that the church has had some trouble. Maeven who is there is treating an injured Edward. He had been drugged with a paralysing agent and fell hitting his head.

The vault has been broken into and the humanoid creature and most of the rats swarm used to protect the vault has been killed. The creature appears as a human with strange eyes and stumps of wings on it's back.

A Burgeater guard who helps out at the church shows that there is a number of items that are untouched in the vault except that a Le Marchand Configuration has been removed. Exactly why is unknown but it is used to summon a specific Cenobite of the Order of the Gash, and any of it's followers. They speculate that the le Marchand family knows how to build these and if given to the wrong person it could be a good assassination weapon if they don't know exactly what it is.

Edward says that he will get Father Tossil back as the vault will need to be strengthened properly again, and the Burgeater states to check around the sides of the road out of town. Plenty of small areas there to camp there.

There they leave it to see if others will get back to them before heading out.
