Session 23: Going Dark in a Cave

General Summary

It's a new day in Eschbach which starts a bit murky.   The group decides to go to the inn for some breakfast. Where Boldwin comes along and mentions that they had a visitor last night named Sil.   The group goes to the room and finds a portal to the shadowfell. After some discussion the group decides to move through the portal.   Once there the group meets the Shadar-Kai Sil who mentions that an orb (called the Orb of Darkness) has been stolen by the Bladed Pouch. They have given it to a group that uses it to call forth the Star Gods. The group moves SE of Eschbach and find a good camping site near their destination which is out of view and pretty safe.   Arne sets up camp and prepares a small fire which is proving difficult because of the dampness of the wood. After some trouble the group eats a goat. Done as the goat followed Magnar back to camp and starts to nibble everybodys clothing. Plus they're all hungry. The group decides to hold night watch, and nothing eventful happens.   The group enters a cave where they encounter some poisonous gas. Arne is affected by the poison making him throw up. Fro is less effected by the poison gas, but is still effected.   The group comes to a split.   The left side leads to a water fall or allot of water.   The right one seems to lead down.   The paths are marked with a rectangle on one side and a circle on the left side. The group decides to go left and find a pond where Magnar dives in after tying a rope around himself on Arne's suggestion.   After diving in, Magnar gets hit with freezing temperatures knocking him out cold. When the group finds out they pull him out of the water.   After Arche helps, he recalls what his familiar saw below the water. A mass of tentacles & etyes.   The group decides to head back and go to the other tunnel with the rectangle.   At the end of this is a large cave with an altar and the Ord of Darkness in front off it.   Once there they find the orb they are looking for and after taking it 2 slime type monsters appear. They make horrendous noises, and temparaily blind Magnar. The group fights and they proceed to kill said creatures. Magnar hacking away, Arne casting spells and a bit of hacking, and Archi casting. Fro burns the two bodies.   At one stage Magnar looses the balance after delivering some powerful final blows to one, and over-extends himself alling on a heap on the cut up body. He ended up covered in it's gore.   After doing so, they grab the Orb, find a chest with some loot, and a set of 300+ year old Roman Centurian armour.   They notice writing on the back of the altar saying it is deicated to Nylarothep the bringer of dark sciences.   At this time there is thumps coming from the wall that adgoins to the left cave. Cracks appear and water starts to pour through.   They flee and the last thing they see is the wall crmbling, water pouring in, and what looks like a huge tentacle in the water.   Making it back out of the cave system, they make it back to Eschbach, drop off the loot and go to the Eschbach Shields.   Going through the portal in the room upstairs they are cornered by two Shadar-Kai armed with swords. Someone behind them tells them that the guys are ok, and to sort out the Orb of Darkness.   They're led into the room where the other two Orbs of Darkness sit opmn plinths. They then place the final Orb on it's emply plinth. They are rewarded with 25 gold each.   Back in the other room they find Sil has been stabbed in the back literally with a poisoned dagger courtesy of the Bladed Pouch. He is dying and Archi tries to help. This seems to slow it down somewhat, but nothing can stop it.   They leave to go home, with Archi to contact a few 'friends' and Magnar to clean up.

321 GP, 5 daggers & 5 one use poison vials (25 gold for all), a jade & obsidian tiara worth 125 gold, a spell scroll of Waterbreathing woth 200 gold, a 300+ set of armour from a Roman Centurian worth 25 gold as junk or for basic display purposes or 75 gold to a collector.   25 GP each from the Shadar-Kai.
