Samael & Lilith
Samael & Lilith are the parents of many fiendish entities in Judaeo-Christian apocrypha. Dangerous in the extreme, both have a chequered past with their creator YHWH, and not to be trifled with.
Summary
Samael and Lilith, despite not being named directly in many original sources are mentioned in the fringes of Judaic & Christian literature primarily in the apocryphal scriptures. Believed to have met early in Lilith's early years, and the parents of many monstrous entities over the years since.
Samael is an Archangel with his name meaning Poison / Venom of God showing how dangerous he is and his position in the hierarchy of the Archangels. Called upon by YHWH to act as an accuser, destroyer, corruptor and killer he carries this out with wanton abandon, living up to the term of Satan. In the original Judaic texts the term of Satan effectively applies to any number of angels that carried out these roles. He made a name for himself by killing the firstborn of Egypt during the 10 plagues sent to aid Moses and the Jewish people. He had met Lilith earlier after she was thrown out of Eden. He already had wives , being the angels of prostitution. Marrying Lilith, his nature & his abode existing between the Heavenly Abode and Sheol corrupted her further, and granting her fiendish status. He has fathered many demons, devils, and general fiends with her. Asmodeus is rumoured to be the son of them, and the Incubi, Succubae and the elder Purebloods of the Vampire Nation are all thought to be the children of their marriage.
His dark nature means he is kept at arms length by many of his peers who worry that he is no better than lucifer, his brother. Indeed, some think that he and Lucifer are one and the same. If anything this is alluded to in the apocrypha linking him to the ruler of Hell. He neither agrees to or denies such statements adding to his dark nature. Certainly many fiends seem to bow or defer to him when in his presence.
As for Lilith, she was originally human and the first woman in the Garden of Eden. Being the first wife of Adam the first man, she was created at the same time out of the same clay. When Adam took charge and wanted Lilith to obey his commands & needs, she refused. Eventually coming to an impasse, Adam approached YHWH demanding that Lilith listen to him in all matters. YHWH refused to do this seeing her as equal to him and one of his new creations, let Lilith leave Eden and created Eve from one of Adam's ribs. Lilith wandered into the wilderness outside, eventually encountering a portal to Sheol (a Hellish dimension of darkness and the cold of the grave). She was noticed, by Samael who was curious seeing one of YHWH's new children so far from where he placed them. Samael eventually approached her asking why she was there in the wilderness. Telling him what happened, he offered to marry him and a place by his side. By doing so she would birth entities that would torment Adam's children through the ages.
Lilith agreed and they wed. Taking aspects of her new domain and Samael's angelic power into her very soul, she birthed many of the fiends spread across the Hells. Some though became well-known beyond the Hells, The Incubi and Succubae in particular looked to seduce Adam's descendants, but worse was to come, and early on too. Giving birth to the first Elders of the Vampire Nation, these wicked creatures broke the Judaic Religious Laws concerning the imbibing of blood, seen as a sacred taboo since it contained the sacred spark of Life given by YHWH. Lilith didn't care, as she knew that she carried the same in her own veins. Eventually, the taboo acts of extreme seduction and blood drinking became taboos in Christianity and Islamic religious laws, so the Incubi, Succubae and Vampires became a curse on all of them too.
All the while Samael knew full well this would happen and had sown the seeds for these taboos to be placed in the religions of other societies in the world. Though many interpreted it in ways counter to this, the belief spread in one form or another, and many such creatures are found in other religions in one form or another.+
Historical Basis
Samael had existed from the early days of Judaism, passing through to the other Abrahamic beliefs in some form. His identity seems to have shifted with the rise of Judaic Kabbala practises and of Judaeo-Christian writings over the course of the past 800 to 850 years. When Islam rose as well, they took in elements too, though in all three the exact details vary widely along with multiple interpretations. Most of the writings & beliefs are generally from fringe groups using texts that aren't generally used by mainstream / dominant versions of many.
Spread
Spread throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Central & Western Europe many peoples are likely to have heard some variant of it. Regularly corrupted or farfetched to most ears, the majority of the followers of the Abrahamic religions don't put too much stock in it. A few do believe and point to myths found in Vampire lore when it surfaces, though many of these are in the hands of, and surpressed by, the leaders of the respective religions.
