This Rock
When the original settlers arrived on Utnapishtim they were tired of people whining because the other habitable planets in the system were either too hot or too cold and that Utnapishtim was too soggy. There was also the problem that their ships weren’t fit for a water landing, saltwater got in the engines and eventually sank. They were stuck on Utnapishtim, a planet 95% covered by water. They decided to build the Capital on the largest island of the planet. Nobody wrote down what was said, but it’s believed it went something like this:
– This’ll have to do. We shall build our city on this rock.
– Ugh. Well, I guess it could be worse. What shall we call it?
– I’m out of ideas, let’s just call it This Rock for now, and maybe someone will think of something better later.
– Whatever.
