Medusa's Gaze

Medusa's Gaze is a Weapon of Mass Destruction developed by the Research and Development team at the Clear Corporation in 2939, or early 2940. It's a theoretical weapon that's supposed to stop all brain activity in the persons exposed to it, making them drop dead on the spot. It kills people while leaving infrastructure unharmed.

Several people had their suspicions about the officer from the Trident Coalition Space Fleet who served as a liaison between the Trident Coalition Armed Forces and the Clear Corporation during the development of the Clear Negotiator, so they created a set of blueprints detailing the weapon codenamed Medusa's Gaze. The blueprints caught the officer's attention like they'd intended and then they rolled them up and had them sent to be kept safe, in the safe of Admiral Farnsworth, "never to be used," since WMDs are illegal according to the Constitution of the Coalition.

The identity of the liaison officer is classified, and nobody has been able to prove that he'd ever been personally involved in the later events that involved Medusa's Gaze. He must have told someone about the blueprints, since another officer in the Coalition Military Intelligence arranged to have the blueprints stolen in 2952, and then tested the weapon, killing a number of Coalition servicemen in the Illyrian System in 2954, causing TCSV Odysseus to crash on Calypso.

Access & Availability

It's a classified military project, though rumors of its existence have leaked into the civilian populace, and to the Sovereign world of Humbaba, where the government is interested in acquiring the weapon for themselves. It's supposedly based on another illegal weapon, from the planet Achlys.
