Aerope
The capital city of the planet Menelaus, in the The Trident Coalition.
Aerope is a sprawling city with dense population, even if it’s not as big and impressive as the capitals of the founding worlds of the Coalition, it’s still bigger than most of the capitals of the neighboring star systems.
The city is in the tropical region of the planet's southern hemisphere, across Isthmus Atreus which connects the two major continents of the planet, with oceans on either side. A canal with locks at either end goes through the city, connecting the two oceans for boat traffic. The locks are so that they wouldn't have to excavate all the way down to sea level, in order to make the canal, but just enough that ships can pass through without running aground. A lake is connected to the canal, so the water level remains the same in the middle section of the canal.
