Personal history

Joron was born the younger son of Petty King Gavaon - though only hours after his brother Exmarre, having a different mother.     Joron greatly resembles his mother, Lady Aega - a Middling noblewoman and donkey beastly demon. Exmarre, by comparison, greatly resembled their father as a traditional demon - and this likeness caused Gavaon to only pay attention to his older son.   Still, there was no resentment between the pair - as Aega had taken in Damari, Exmarre's mother and a commoner avian beastly demon, after Gavaon dismissed her in solidarity for having been dismissed by the same man. The pair fell romantically in love, and so their sons were raised together despite their father's disinterest in one of them. Indeed, Gavaon's attention was hardly a boon - as he pushed Exmarre, a lover of fashion and flippant individual, into politics and combat - both of which he despised.    Joron, by comparison, greatly enjoyed combat - though he lacked his brother's genius, he was at least in the running for second most powerful combatant of their generation. He also found great enjoyment in politics - and in academic study and debate. It was in this way he met Seyl - a librarian in the castle library. The pair spent much time in each others' company, as Joron spent many hours in the library and enjoyed her insight on the subjects he was researching, as they were equally prolific readers and that was a rare trait for most demons. Over time, they began an official jamaes - and Joron's mother and brother were all equally delighted with Seyl's gentle wit and wisdom as a dedicant of Nosu.   Joron took an active role in the politics of the castle, always attedning Assembly and councils regarding important decisions. While Exmarre attended as necessarily to placate their father, he largely put his support towards Joron's arguments and initiatives. Though his brother was not as inactive as others often believed of him - he often brought lesser known initiatives and social projects to Joron, knowing his younger brother would be better able to champion them in the sphere of debate and rhetoric than he. Exmarre would discretely donate to many of these projects - wanting to help but not wanting the influence doing so publically would garner.    Though Joron knew it was more than many other nobles attempted, Exmarre saw it as practically nothing - as it cost him nothing and gained him less for his anonymity. Though it would be fair to say it also spared him - as Gavaon did not approve of the kinds of progessive initiatives Exmarre and Joron threw their influence behind.   Joron also knew that Exmarre primarily listened to their father for the sake of his family - and that one day, Gavaon would demand more than Exmarre was willing to give up.    That day came after Exmarre gained a new groom for his wyvern - a man named Oresti that Joron had met a handful of times before in the company of his great uncle, Head of Castle Administration Faori. Exmarre fell for the man hard and fast, startling everyone as Exmarre was well-known to be shallow and Oresti did not meet any cultural standard of beauty as he was covered in pox-scars and an inspired demon besides.    As the pair courted, Joron impressed by Oresti's sharp, frank tongue and fearlessness that were the qualities his brother had to find the most attractive, Joron prepared for the upcoming court divide. He shored up his allies, discretely probing each, and reached out to Faori - both sure that Exmarre would propose, and more certain that when he did, Gavaon would disapprove. As a protective measure, Seyl suggested they queerplatonically wed as well - though she said it was more moving up their timeline than changing any real plans. Fully in rame with his longterm partner, Joron agreed readily.    It was shortly after their wedding that Exmarre proposed to Oresti - and as they had all anticipated, Gavaon disapproved greatly and cruelly.    As he had a right by blood, Joron had long used his father's surname - and thanked the gods it gave him better standing in opposition to the Petty King as Exmarre finally took a stand against their father. As Gavaon's son, anf the better politician between himself and his brother, more of the court than he'd expected were willing to stand behind Joron as the next ruler of their city - especially when Faori added his support. Gavaon was surprised to find he had any opposition - and certainly not the strong opposition of much of the court.    Gavaon was still a strong man - and one who had always ruled through fear. While most wished to finally see the end of his rule, many were too afraid to stand against him and those most loyal to him. So while he only maintained a minority of true supporters, he had enough powerful allies to make many refuse to take either side.    When it seemed a duel for power was inevitable - and Joron knew many believed it would be between Exmarre and their father, though he fully intended to make his own challenge first - Demon King Ergirri announced his nomination for his successor.(document:c7820aec-1f7c-445c-acf1-e52fb05315ce) Gavaon could not stand the thought of a commonborn General taking the throne, and so made Exmarre a deal - if his son took part in the @[Royal Trials and did his best to win, Gavaon would allow him to live his life as he saw fit without interference, no matter the outcome.    Exmarre - not half the fool his public behavior led others to believe - made their father put this promise in writing before the Temple of Vemera. After their departure for Gnomesaroy and the Trials, Joron went to the temple to pray to the Goddess of Judgement - appealing to her as his patron to oversee the promise directly. He was surprised to get a direct reply - Vemera assuring him she had already intended to, as Gavaon had gone back on promises made in her temple already, and far too often. Thus assured, Joron could only hope this Jurao proved to be the first warrior to best his brother in combat - not wishing a far grander responsibility on a brother who did not even wish to rule a city.    When Exmarre and Gavaon returned, the family all celebrated the Ascension of Demon King Jurao and Exmarre's glorious loss - soon followed by the romantic wedding of Exmarre and Oresti, and the coronation of Joron as the next Petty King.    Gavaon had indeed attempted to go back on his word - but Aeganes, Deity of Combat, had stepped in on Vemera's behalf to prevent it. Having earned the ire of a deity caused Gavaon to loss the last of his support, and he had no other choice but to relinquish his seat to the son who wanted it - seeming much smaller and less imposing to Joron in his defeat.    Joron had always believed he would have to fight his father to become the next Petty King - but was much happier taking his place by peace, his comascis at his side, his mothers supporting him, and his brother and brother-in-law happily traveling the realms in pursuit of fashion.
