Cathasach Restat (pronounced Caw-Thaw-Shock) was the second High Observer of Elturel, the founder of Elturgard, and a founding member of the Order of the Companion.

History

Early Life

Cathasach Restat was born in 1416 in Elturel to a long-line of Hellriders. Restat joined the Hellriders, following in the family tradition, when he was 18. His time with the Hellriders was impressive but not exemplary. Restalt himself was noted as saying that he felt as if he were going through the motions of life without a clear purpose.
In 1447, Restat was patrolling outside of Elturel during the Reign of Vampires. Restat and the rest of the Hellriders said siege to the city from the outside, preventing any vampires from escaping, but were unable to push inside the city to take it back. However, the vampires were defeated when the Companion appeared in the sky over Elturel, destroying the unholy attackers with its divine light.
In the Companion, Restalt found the purpose he had spent his life searching for. The following year, in 1448, Restalt left the Hellriders and, with the blessing of High Observer Naja Bellandi, founded the Order of the Companion. Following the Creed Resolute, Restat and the Order of the Companion pledged to protect Elturel and all its dominion, protected under the new light of the Companion.

High Observer of Elturgard

In 1449, High Observer Naja Bellandi died unexpectedly in what was publicly labeled a tragic illness but was in actuality an assassintation by the Cult of Zariel. Elturel was briefly gripped by a succession crisis, but Restat's role as the head of the Order of the Companion made him a natural fit. Restat was sworn in as High Observer that year.
Restat's rule revolved around the strengthening and centralization of Elturel and those under its guard. In 1453, Restat formalized the relationship between Elturel and its neighbors by formally declaring a kingdom, to better protect all under "the Companion's light and Elturel's Guard." This new nation, quickly known as Elturgard, thus began the process of centralization. Unity Prayers were established to help bridge potential religious divides between the various settlements and the Hellriders and Order of the Companion began taking more members from outside of Elturel. Inside of Elturel, Restat encouraged the creation of Unity Tributes as well.
As Restat grew older, it was clear his favored successor was Thamal Thent, the current leader of the Order of the Companion. However, Thent and an entire retinue of Hellriders went missing in 1481 while patrolling the area near Boareskyr Bridge. With Thent gone, Restat's chosen successor became Thavius Kreeg, a well-known priest of Torm who was in actuality the leader of the city's Cult of Zariel.
Restat passed away in 1483. He was buried in state and given a burial with full honors, befitting that of the founder of Elturgard. He was replaced by High Observer Thavius Kreeg not long after.

A devoted believer in the power of the Companion, High Observer Restat was unaware of the machinations of the Cult of Zariel, who began infiltrating many of the highest levels of government during his reign. Restat's ignorance restuled in Thavius Kreeg succeeding him, the leader of the Cult of Zariel in Elturel.
