Ulru'Wor Military Formation in The Skyrunner Tribe | World Anvil

Ulru'Wor

"Bin mog g'thazag cha!"

“Throw your soldiers into positions whence there is no escape, and they will prefer death to flight. If they will face death, there is nothing they may not achieve. Officers and men alike will put forth their uttermost strength. Soldiers in desperate straits lose the sense of fear. If there is no place of refuge, they will stand firm. If they are in the heart of a hostile country, they will show a stubborn front. If there is no help for it, they will fight hard. Thus, without waiting to be marshaled, the soldiers will be constantly on the alert, and without waiting to be asked, they will do your will; without restrictions, they will be faithful; without giving orders, they can be trusted. Prohibit the taking of omens, and do away with superstitious doubts. Then, until death itself comes, no calamity need be feared.”   -Sun Tzu

The Ulru’Wor is the first line of both offense, and defense for the Skyrunner tribe. Usually the first into battle the intent of the Ulru’Wor is to hold the line so the rest of the tribe can flank their enemies and to stand beside their tribesman as a beacon of hope and courage in the heat of battle. Each member of the unit can be identified by the red sash of woven wyvern fur that is worn across their chest.

Wyvern Armor:

Each wyvern flying with the Ulru’Wor wears armor that has been painted red. The armor is outfitted with an undercarriage mounted ballista which can fire a banner, attached to a spear. This can be used to signal their presence or impale their enemies, depending on what the situation calls for. These specific pieces of wyvern armor are also equipped with a backdraft plate which can be angled to cause them to emit a screeching sound as the wind passes through it during flight.

Vehicles

The Windchaser

The members of Ulru'wor travel primarily on The Windchaser when away from the village and not on their wyverns. This zeppelin, created by Venzolo Shadowspark, acts as their home base. Though they do not live together in the same cabin onboard they use it as their staging grounds. Korgig's mobile forge, Venzolo's workshop, and Enyetof's greenhouse and alchemy workspace are all on board. Additionally, this is where the three keep their wyverns when they are not being used.

Wyverns and The Cloudlord Pride

Wyverns are the primary mount of Ulru'wor. They take to heart the tribe's life-long bond with their wyverns and utilizes them in combat as symbols of intimidation, power, strength, cunning, and ferocity as well as for their keen combat abilities. The Wyverns are the greatest tools in their duty to the tribe and so they take great care of them and train their bond with them continually.

Historical loyalties

"Chieftain Kwasewi Skyrunner is the one that formed the Sky-Reavers. His life as Chieftain was one not unlike an orc's. Filled with war and blood rage. His father, Voko ruled over Desolace with savage powers, and his son, Kwasewi, was challenged upon his death to do the same. The Centaur in those times, as it is now, challenged Kwasewi and his new position. To counter the brutal attacks he called for the finest warriors and braves of the tribe and formed them into a single-minded force of war. Both cunning and strong."   -Kanatu Skyrunner when explaining the history of the Sky-Reaver rank to Korgig Strongblade

The Sky-Reavers are charged with a duty unlike most any other within the tribe. Though all the tribe is expected to be able to fight and defend themselves in times of need the Sky-Reaver is a title that brings with it the single-minded focus of bloodshed and war. A Sky-Reaver is an individual raised up from among the tribe that has proven themselves capable in combat and who have been touched by the lessons of the Elements. Once they are called forth the Sky-Reaver then selects three others from among the tribe to join them in their specific endeavor.

These Elite Forces are created by each individual Sky-Reaver and become something of a subculture within the tribe. Focusing on a single arena of combat be it scouting and pathfinding, ranged weaponry, melee combat, front line assults, or protection of the Chieftain and elders of the tribe. They are masters at their chosen arena of war and in times of crisis these Forces are the first to act. They are both a part of the Tribe as well as separate.

"I have considered what the tribe needs most, and more importantly what a Warsong and a Skyrunner could provide! As we saw recently against the scourge our clan lacks its center on the battlefield! I have decided my charge would be to make up that center with the Ulru'Wor! Every clan needs those who will be the first into battle. The first to raise their banner and hold the line so others may follow! That is what we will be! The Ulru'Wor will not know retreat! We will stand against any enemy and be victorious or fall to a warrior's death! Either outcome for the good of our clan!"

    Lead By: Members:
Korgig nodded to Dakoda, spotting the metal leg on the tauren with the foot shaped like an orc's. There may have been a look of pride in his eye, both from the honor of the ceremony and his creation. The orc turned to address the tribe once more, "Those of the Ulru'wor will be known by these sashes worn as well as our own banner." He took a deep breath and expelled it through his nose before making his first choice, "The first who will join these ranks is one who has been known to do great things for our clan. He once lifted a plague that befell the village. More recently, he suffered great torments by his captors in an attempt to free Hotah from the clutches of those twisted knifeears! He has known sacrifice for his clan, and he has dedicated himself to seeing it remain healthy both on and off the battlefield." Korgig began to unroll the sash as his voice rose, "Enyetof Stormstride, step forward!"
Korgig nodded in response to Kanatu and laid the sash back down. Deciding it would be presented to Stormstride at another time. So he moved on, picking up the next, "The next person to join these ranks is a person lacking strength! And as you know, strength is something I place great value in!" The orc's brow twitched slightly at his small obsession with physical strength, "Though for all the strength lacking in his puny arms it is offset by his cunning and honest counsel! Two things that have their own value and can turn the tide of a battle!" Korgig started to unroll the sash, "Venzolo Shadowspark. Step forward!"
