Personal history
Blackrock are typically known to be incredibly militaristic and Dursk was no different. From a young age he pursued combat and combat strategies, trying to accomplish as much as he could in as little time possible. He rose through the ranks quickly, partly due to his rather tepid personality, but after a series of emotionally crippling events, backed out of the military and chose a rather subdued life of smithing, tailoring and leatherworking, spending almost all of his free time on those before getting involved in the trading business. Now he spends his life traveling around with his pack kodo trading with far away villages and settlements.
Basic Bullet Point HistoryAround 25 ADP (roughly age 21) was when Dursk really got involved in the Horde military as a grunt. Before, he was still involved, just on a less militaristic scale. He would help produce armor and weapons for the forces but didn’t see much combat until then, and he became a soldier around the time the events of vanilla WoW.
That same year is when the Horde entered Dire Maul to banish the corruption within. There, Prince Tortheldrin rallied his night elf forces inside and attempted to stand against the Horde but were promptly beaten down. From there, the force Dursk was involved with headed south to Silithus where there was open violence between the Horde and Alliance.
While in Silithus, Dursk would prove himself to be a rather brutal warrior, often using the decapitated heads of any Alliance he would fell to beat down their comrades. He was a strong believer that psychological defeat was equally as scarring as physical defeat, after all. While stationed in Silithus, Dursk would grow smitten with a orcess by the name of Shazi Blackmaw, a confident, firm yet surprisingly kind warrior.
Dursk, not quite the silver-tongued man he would grow into, was fairly straight-forward with his wishes, which Shazi found endearing. Shazi had an incredible intellect when it came to military strategies and movements, and preached honour whenever she fought on the battlefield. She was proud of her victories, but rarely gloated over them-- a burning opposite to Dursk who often flaunted his might whenever he could.
Roughly 26 ADP (age 22), A fact that Dursk keeps to himself is his involvement in the Northrend campaign. Due to being very much involved in himself, he hadn’t made any noteworthy friends, and despite rising to the senior sergeant rank within the Horde, he was still considered rather insignificant. At this point, Shazi and Dursk were official mates. They were together for most of the Northrend campaign, and though neither would admit it, they were both equally as horrified at the horrors they saw while there.
Eventually, the pair was split up. While Shazi assisted more with the assault on the Scourge, Dursk’s attentions were drawn elsewhere-- to Wintergrasp. Without Shazi (his metaphorical moral compass) around, Dursk let go all of the anxieties and fears he had experienced fighting the undead and took them out on the Alliance, enemies that he much preferred, as not only did they bleed when you cut them, they could be tortured for information. And that’s what Dursk did. At first, he did it to gain information on Alliance whereabouts and to find out anything the Horde could find on what the Alliance knew about their own movements. At first, this only consisted of removing or crushing fingers and toes, anything he could do to pry information out of them, and after a while, he grew to find a sick satisfaction in it, and even after the alliance had given everything they could have (or not), Dursk would find other ways to execute them in a horrendous fashion. Be it rats, letting them get so filthy that maggots and disease took them, or other questionable forms of killing such as fastening their entrails to a tree and forcing them to run around it like a macabre maypole dance.
It didn’t take long for others to find issue with it, though there were some that participated in the dark activities. Eventually, Shazi and Dursk were reunited, but Shazi had caught wind of what Dursk had been up to. Disgusted with the orc Dursk was turning into, she berated him, saying that what he had become was no longer an orc, and that there must have been some sort of demon that had possessed him, as the Dursk she had fallen in love with would never dream of doing such horrible things. Shazi then left, disappointed in who her (now ex) mate had become.
It took Dursk until roughly 28 ADP to realize that something was off with what he had chosen to do. He served in the Horde’s efforts up until the Goblins escaped Kezan, and on a brief return home to Orgrimmar, he stumbled upon a goblin refugee named Eevi Hagglepot, a particularly silver-tongued woman who took an immediate interest to thoroughly embarrassing Dursk with quick wit and guile.
Much to Dursk’s disinterest, Eevi continued to get after him, determined to make this orc’s life a living hell by breaking him down piece by piece. Eventually, their odd comradery got to the point where one night, over drinks, Dursk opened up about his confusion over what had happened with Shazi, and how he didn’t quite understand why she left and what he had done wrong. Eevi basically told him that what he did was pretty messed up, and that she absolutely understood where the issues were, and then proceeded to give him a 10 page verbal essay on exactly where he went wrong, why it was wrong, and reversed the situation on him so that she made absolutely sure he was aware that what he did wasn’t right, even by goblin standards.
The whole process took many hours and at first it seemed as if Eevi’s lengthy explanation was all for naught, but over the next few days that Dursk spent away from the goblin, he realized that he had been excruciatingly wrong. Distraught, Dursk spent the next two years reverting to his former role within the Horde, forging and mending weapons and armor. He would enter battle whenever ordered to, but he used much of his power to stay away from the fighting until around year 30 ADP (age 26) where he inevitably was forced to leave the military.
Through this period, he still spent much of his free time with Eevi. Most of the time it was for simple companionship. Despite Eevi’s sly ways, she was patient with Dursk, and taught him a surprising amount of lessons. One of the first things he learned was how to speak goblin, as Eevi said she was the only one allowed to scam Dursk, and didn’t trust other goblins to not do the same. Other lessons were less obvious to Dursk-- Eevi would rag on him about showing people compassion, yet turn around and scam a fancy looking elf into a horrible deal on faulty parts. They were confusing, but within the next year or so, they had entered a deal with each other where Eevi would teach Dursk everything she knew about people and business, and Dursk would help insure the quality of goods.
By 32 ADP (age 28) Dursk and Eevi had become fast trade partners with their main hub in the backstreets of Orgrimmar. Their business was doing well, and their trade network spanned a ways East and South of Orgrimmar. At this point, Dursk hadn’t heard from Shazi in years (rightfully so) but from what he knew, she was still a respectable orcess within the military.
