Soko Shiawase

Soko Shiawase is one of the three Shiawase siblings that run Shiawase Corporation. Despite being the oldest child of family and corporation founder Emori Shiawase, Soko's younger brother Sadato Shiawase gained Emori's estates, a fact that enrages Soko. Her attempts at overthrowing her brother have kept the corporation in a state of chaos, eventually leading to the death of their youngest brother Ryoi Shiawase.

Despite being in her 60s, Soko, like most of her family, undergoes regular treatments to keep her looking young, known as leonization. She looks to the uninformed eye to be in her 30s, likely the source of the rumor that she and the other Shiawase members are somehow connected to the infamous Immortal Elves.

Personal history

Born just before Shiawase Corporation's formation, Soko Shiawase has always considered the corporation to be her birthright. When she grew old enough, she helped her father turn the local business into the world-spanning empire it is today. Heavily involved in the corporation as she was, she hoped that her father would make her his heir, allowing her to take on the mantle she helped create. Instead, her younger brother Sadato Shiawase became heir, whether because he was the oldest male, was more easily manipulated, or simply liked more by their father. Soko took the news with all the good graces expected of her, but her displeasure would be known with time. 
When Emori died in 2019, several older cousins of the family stepped in to steal the corporation away from Sadato. Since he remained head of the family, Sadato still had massive influence over the family, influence which Soko wished to use for her own gain. Amidst the chaos of the Crash of '29, Soko helped Sadato get majority shares in the company, with big percentages going to herself and Ryoi Shiawase. Why she chose to put Sadato in charge could be a number of reasons. Perhaps she was still on decent terms with Sadato, or she thought he'd be more accepted by the corproation's executives as chosen heir. Regardless, her feelings towards her brother were soon made clear. The following decade saw Soko constantly try to undermine her brother, using ever tactic she could to bring Sadato down. 
Tensions between the siblings escalated when Sadato had Soko's fiance arrested on charges of conspiracy. Although almost certainly true, this act represented direct action at the tail end of a long cold war, so it infuriated Soko. She began plotting to have Sadato outright killed, a plan which resulted in two assassination attempts. Both failed, but the second of the two failed so spectacularly that it instead killed their younger brother Ryoi Shiawase, a chaotic neutral party to their back-and-forth schemes. Hopes that his shares would become available for either party died with him when rumors circulated that Ryoi still haunts the family estate. A spirit-channeler name Jerri Howard was hired to find answers and either made contact with Ryoi's spirit or could smell the money involved in saying he could. With Ryoi's shares once again accounted for, and very much not among her faction, Soko has once again returned to building her next scheme.

Contacts & Relations

Although not CEO of the corporation, Soko still wields considerable power within the company. The current CEO, Tadashi Shiawase is well in the hands of his father, Satado, but tends to like Soko better. Several high-ranking executives in the company also owe afflliation to Soko, who in many cases got them their jobs in the first place. 
Unfortunately, Sadato's faction within the company also has a long reach, and Ryoi's faction, while limited, is pointedly on neither side of the conflict. Jerri Howard in particular doesn't seem to like Soko very much as the two have publicly argued on several occasions, usually about how Howard is using Ryoi's shares.

Soko holds some anonymity towards her father for passing over her for selection as his heir. He, in turn, seems to have been indifferent towards his daughter, whether due to gender or because she lacks some characteristic he considered important to rule.
