As
Emori Shiawase's chosen successor almost from birth, Sadato grew up with a lot of privlege that his siblings,
Ryoi Shiawase and
Soko Shiawase did not. As far as the company was concerned, Sadato was the golden child raised by Emori specifically to lead the company once Emori died. The reality is that Emori mostly used Sadato as a puppet, putting him in key positions of power without actually teaching him how to run the company or preparing him for a transfer of power. As far as Emori himself seems to have been concerned, Sadato was only as vaulable as he was manipulable.
Despite Emori's indifference towards him, Sadato grew up deeply in love with everything his father stood for. When Emori distanced himself and his company from metahumanity in the early 2010s, Sadato had his metahuman newborn son killed. When Emori began emphasizing the importance of family in his company, Sadato dragged his second son into corporate business. And when Emori died in 2019, Sadato faithfully carried on his father's projects, at least until he lost the company to distant cousins of the family.
From 2022 to 2029, the Shiawase Corporation bounced between hands regularly as distant cousins of the family took hold of the company, made fast enemies, and then died to the hands of the next successor. Thanks to the chaos of the
Crash of '29 and help from his sister, Sadato eventually took the company back, but now had to share large chunks of the company with his siblings. Ryoi never seems to have enjoyed being part of the corporate world, but Soko actively vied for power within the company. The two spent the next decade at each other's throats, slowing escalating from petty schemes to outright assassination. After Sadato arrested Soko's fiance in 2049 for fake charges of conspiracy, an enraged Soko sent assassins to kill Sadato. Although neither of the two attempts succeeded, the second inadverdently killed Ryoi, who despite being dead still communicates with the world of the living through
Jerri Howard. Howard has since used Ryoi's votes to keep the company as locked down as possible, supposedly at the behest of Ryoi himself.
With power slipping away from him, Sadato chose to take a more background role in the company, setting up his son,
Tadashi Shiawase as CEO. Despite Tadashi's preference for Soko, Sadato keeps his son on a short leash, using him more as a puppet than a successor. Unfortunately, Soko still schemes against Sadato and Ryoi's votes still cause problems for both siblings, leaving the entire company in a state of jeopardy.
