Casimir's Spine
The continent of Valterra is characterized by a massive mountain range which divides the east and west halves of its central landmass. Known as Casimir’s Spine, the mountain range is populated by fiercely territorial tribes of indigenous goliaths who make all travel across the mountains impossible.
The Eastern Kingdoms
The kingdoms of Gundala, Aldara and Cadoc have entered into a military alliance called the Dragonshade Coalition. Swayed by the charismatic political leader of Gundala, these countries perceive themselves as the defenders of order and law and work together to spread their orderly way of life to the western kingdoms- by force.
Velibor, remaining unalligned, has locked down its borders to repel warring nations to the south, as well as its rival nation of Velimir to the north. Velibor and Velimir remain in a cold war following their political seperation.
The great gnomish island of Goldpeak remains completely neutral, as they always have.
The Western Kingdoms
The nations of Branmira, Gaufrid, and some orcish tribes of Garshan have formed an alliance known as Casimir's Confederacy. Together they defend their borders and way of life from the coercion of the Eastern kingdoms. These western kingdoms are known to be peaceful and diverse.
The Southern Desert
The southernmost region of Valterra, known as Garshan, is a massive arid desert inhabited by orcs and other various types of desert life. Garshan is extremely dangerous due to its climate and fauna and is reviled by the eastern “civilized” nations of the continent.
The Northern Wastes
The northern region of Valterra is a mostly uncharted arctic no-man's land. The most notable inhabitants are hearty dwarves, Berwyc humans, and ice trolls.
