Royal Kaleinen Constabulary

In the past, every town and village in Kaleina operated their own city watch. Things fell into chaos during the exodus to the lakes, and the military was tasked with establishing order. Once things settled and the Kaleinen military was established as a standing army, those already deployed to maintaining order in settlements were formally brought together into the Royal Kaleinen Constabulary.   The Constabulary is one of thee branches of the Kaleinen military, on equal footing to the other two (the Border Rangers and the King's Guard.) Their jurisdiction falls on any of Kaleina's islands, even the uninhabited ones. Their official duty is to maintain the peace and enforce local laws, but they receive the same basic military training as the other branches and may be called to battle if the situation calls for it.

Structure

The Constabulary is centrally organized from the headquarters in Kaleina's capital, Fianasai. The force is headed by the Marshal of the Constabulary, who answers directly to the king and is on equal rank wit the marshals of the other two branches.   The marshal is assisted by the vice-marshal, their second-in-command.   Answering to the Marshal are the commanders, each of whom is in charge of a city. Within each city, the commander has a deputy commander, and then three captains to head the three departments of patrol, investigations, and containment. Patrol is by far the largest and handles any sort of crime, from reprimanding vandals to arresting murderers. The investigations department, in all by the largest of the cities, are specialized patrol constables who only leave their duties in patrol if a case appears.   Containment was larger in the early days of the resettlement in the lakes, but still an important part of national security. They are the first ones called at any possible sign of the Forest reaching the islands. They have significant contact with Border Rangers and frequently receive training with them to spot the signs of an infected person and what to do in the case of invasion. Although the Captain of Containment is ranked below a city's commander, instructions from them relating to containment must be followed to the letter. Containment Constables tend to be disliked, because they have a reputation for being paranoid and abusing their power to make people's lives more difficult.   Within each department, constables are broken into shifts, with each shift being lead by a head constable. All others have the basic rank of constable.   Only towns with a population over 400 have a commander and a full-fledged constable force. Smaller towns have only a patrol captain and constables, and even smaller villages have only two constables. They answer to the Rural Affairs Commander, who is based out of Fianasai and oversees all remote placements. If a smaller town encounters a situation that would need investigation or containment specialization, they bring in support from the nearest larger town.
