Lake Taiha

Taiha is the largest lake in Veiama. At 50 miles across and 150 miles from north to south, it's roughly the size of a small sea. It is even affected minimally by tides, rising falling by at most half a foot.   The border between Maunia and Mähakama ran right through the middle of the lake for centuries, with the islands split between the two kingdoms. Those kingdoms both fell during the advent of the Forest, and the lake is today unified in the principality of Haikella. Haikella's borders follow the edge of the lake.   Taiha is connected to Lake Pauvahäs by a strait wide enough that some consider Taiha-Pauvahäs to be one enormous body of water. By river, it is connected to Lake Hiva. A portage route in the east links it to a river leading to Lake Meilla.

Taillali

Local folklore holds that the lake is home to an enormous serpentine beast called Taillali. Taillali is said to come out on nights when both moons are dark and swallow boats. Though most believe Taillali is only a myth, it is still hard to find a sailor willing to go out on the lake on double-dark nights.   One old legend says that a piper once attempted to tame the beast with magic. Furious, Taillali swallowed the piper whole, and she continued to play from inside its stomach. Locals claim that on double-dark nights, you might hear haunting pipe music from across the dark lake and this is a warning that Taillali is nearby.
