Kingdom of Torra
Torra is the smallest kingdom in Veiama, consisting of one main island and two smaller ones in the small Lake Tulli. It is connected to Vaansiam by a straight to the much larger Lake Hiva, and to Kaleina by a portage route to Lake Pauvahäs.
Torra has never been a major player on the world stage. With its small size, it imports far more than it exports and is for the most part left alone in their isolated lake.
History
Torra was founded by a small group of survivors during the Forest's takeover of Veiama. The residents of the village of Lualai had attempted to bunker down in their homes. After a particularly bad night when half a dozen uhaaki broke into a house and carried away an entire family, the remaining members of the village realized they had to flee. A woman named Akko Arteninhafi took charge and led the refugees to the island of Torrkuan. There, they established a settlement called New Lualai and attempted to rebuild their lives.
Akko became the leader of the community by communal agreement. Soon after their arrival, more refugees arrived from villages all around the lake, and the people of New Lualai granted them sanctuary in their community. However, as the community grew, so too did disagreement and unrest. The community was disjointed, with residents from villages that had been in different duchies and survivors who had leadership roles in their home towns who didn't see why they had to listen to Akko.
To end the unrest, Akko declared the island a new kingdom called Torra, and herself its queen. The residents of Lualai had kept control of the food supply, and demanded all residents accept the rule of Queen Akko to receive food rations. Some who refused eventually left Torra, intending to establish communities of their own, but the majority eventually agreed to Akko's rule and the kingdom was established.
Akko's son, Jano, inherited her position after her death. As king, he decided to lean into the royal image and was determined to make Torra "proper" kingdom that could stand next to the powerful kingdom of Kaleina. He directed major construction efforts to build a castle on the edge of New Lualai, and formally created noble titles for the families that had come to Torra from the original Lualai.
