the Belt Geographic Location in The Old World (1.Order) | World Anvil

the Belt

The lands of the belt stand between the southern outcrops of the great desert and the lands of the mages . Had it been flat land it could be crossed in less than two days of hard marching. From east two west however it goes on many hundret miles, from the southern end of the fire mountains almost to the shores of first haven bay
At the eastern edge of the belt lie the misty mountains and the grey fortress.

Geography

The lands of the belt are a wooded hill land with few decent mountains, except for the misty mountains in the east.
The hills are mostly covered in thick - and not seldom thorny - scrub and bush, topped with low trees. The valleys are mostly wide and flat, carved so by the many streams and rivers that swell often in the many rains.

Fauna & Flora

Due to the closeness of the sea winters are mild and there is seldom frost. Therefore most of the plants here are evergreen with small thick leaves to protect them against the heavy rainfalls.

History

The lands of the belt are the frontier between the great desert and the home of the mages. It protects the mages against the demons living in the desert. It is said that to that purpose it was raises by the gods themselves before the creation of the mortal races.
The bel itself is only sparsely inhabited. It is mostly sentries and hermits that live there, mostly mages but also some light elves.

In the last year of the long peace, the land of the mages is destroyed by the power of the devil. Soon after an attack is led by the demons on the lands of the belt to break through to the sea. This is apprehended by combined forces of light elves, humans and mages.
