Galtern Security Patrol

The Security Patrol is a police force that operates island-wide on Galtern, though its main facilites and most of its patrollers are centered in Stolc.

Composition

Weaponry

The Patrol is prevented by its charter from using lethal weapons. Patrol-issue magnetic blowguns shoot darts that temporarily paralyze the target, and may only be carried by patrollers in uniform.

Training

Recruits must complete four ranks of training before becoming patrollers. Regardless of which unit they eventually post to, all patrollers train at Guard Central, to ensure that the patrol holds up the same standards throughout Galtern.

Logistics

Recruitment

To prevent representational disparity, every Galternene home district is required to provide a percentage of its population to the patrol.

History

The Security Patrol was established in Stolc under that name in 1640 Vol, two years before the Twilight Chaos, and few now know that it was originally a civilian organization devoted mostly to the harrassment of night shift workers. Instead of disbanding the oxymoronically named group, the newly formed Cooperative Council demanded the formation of a night chapter and dictated the first charter that applied to both.
Under the Unity occupation of Galtern, the patrol was supplanted by the One Guard, though Kezlaf assured Galtern's citizens that the Security Patrol would remain intact. What actually happened was that more and more of the policing powers, as well as most of the promising candidates, were taken up by the One Guard. By the time the Unity fell, the Security Patrol was composed entirely of men not fit enough to be taken into the military, and whose duties consisted primarily of dressing in uniform for parades.
As the Unity's power weakened after the fall of Kezlaf, uprisings on Galtern began. The One Guard was forced to turn to the Security Patrol, led by Lann, to help put down the disturbances. This the Patrol accomplished by urging patience, promising that they would remove the Guard themselves. At the end of that summer, the day and night patrols joined forces to invade Guard Central during the evening cross-hour. They held the building for two days, accepting loyalty oaths from defecting Guards until the dwindling remainder surrendered in exchange for safe escort off of Galtern.
