Guard Central

Guard Central is the operations center for the Galtern Security Patrol based in Stolc, Galtern's capital city.  It also serves as a training center for all pre-patrollers on Galtern, regardless of where they are assigned.

Purpose / Function

Shortly after the completion of the conduit between Mraydor and Galtern, Walemin proposed merging Mraydor's Island Guard and Galtern's Security Patrol into a pan-island law enforcement organization called the One Guard.  Since the Security Patrol was decentralized at that time, Guard Central was built in Stolc to serve as the base for the unified force.

History

Construction of Guard Central was completed in 2005 Vol, but the planned law enforcement merger did not take place. The Security Patrol objected to the militarized model the Island Guard followed, and the Worthies who supported the One Guard lost esteem and rank. For the next five years the building was staffed with only a few Island Guard members, on a regularly rotating basis. Starting in 2010 Vol that presence increased gradually as Mraydor and Galtern came closer to an agreement on enforcement of Unity law. When Kezlaf succeeded Walemin as Uniter, he secured Galtern's support for the One Guard by allowing the Security Patrol to coexist alongside it in the same decentralized manner, though with greatly reduced enforcement powers.
Guard Central remained the base of operations for the One Guard on Galtern until the Overthrow of 2041. During evening twilight, with the building at its emptiest, the Security Patrol's combined day and night forces broke in and took it over from the handful of One Guard on duty. It was the focal point for two days of civil unrest until the One Guard surrendered.

Tourism

Because of its role in the Overthrow, Guard Central is undeniably a historical landmark as much as it is an active civic workplace. The Security Patrol's administration does its best to keep a balance between both roles, allowing public access to certain parts of the building at limited times, provided visitors do not interfere in any way with the patrol's activities.
