There is scant but compelling evidence for the existence of a sapient species under the water of Ralcondray's bay. It is mentioned twice in the logbook kept by Luraun of the Anjendan tideriders during the Grand Adventure's exploratory voyage across the North Gap. The first relevant entry comes the day after the expedition came to shore, in the middle of a list of site reports.

Dancinglight has finished examining local waters. Reports as follows:

Warm water springs--high in mineral content, possibly useful for evaporation mining, but likely not worth the effort. Some sub-visible life. No threat to health, but better for bathing than drinking.

River--also contains life, should be boiled before use. Fish safe to consume cooked.

Bay--somewhat salty, less so near mouth of river.

Rain--clean, best option for drinking water.

Also unusually excited about something living in bay, neither edible nor dangerous. Can't give comprehensible description--whatever it is sticks to sea bed, doesn't swim, might be one or more than one, can't see or hear, but knows we're here?! Claims it/they gave permission for the venture, and insists on coming back with spec fleet to "continue exchange of thoughts". Odd duck.

The second entry comes the following day, after a meeting of officers raised the concern that the presence of a living thing intelligent enough to communicate would endanger the planned mines.

Asked Dancinglight for more details on deeps-dweller(s). Got none. Only says has made deal to set up permanently without breaking laws. Still uneasy, but final decision up to Connu.

Connu's decision is not recorded, but since the speculation fleet set sail half a year later as planned, it is clear that she felt the Dancinglight's word was sufficient to allow the expedition to proceed. However, Vitgrud's records contain no mention of the deeps-dweller, according to Zimmira, their most recent Dancinglight. Further investigation will have to wait until an agreement is reached between Vitgrud and the Allied Isles.
