Argynvostholt
The house stands silent, like the fossilized remains of some long-dead thing smote upon the mountainside.
Argynvostholt is a large mansion standing on a hill to the south-west of Vallaki. It lies ruined, long-forgotten and worn by the ages, yet there is still movement inside its walls. A third of the structure has collapsed, as well as part of the roof. An octagonal tower rises above the structure.
Argynvostholt was once the home of the Order of the Silver Dragon, a holy order of paladins lead by the silver dragon Argynvost who settled here to protect something from evil eyes. During Strahd von Zarovich's conquest, he faced the dragon and managed to slay it as his forces overwhelmed the limited amount of knights. Strahd von Zarovich cut up the dragon, stripped its skull of its flesh and took it with him to Ravenloft as a trophy.
The leader of the knights and greatest among them, Vladimir Horngaard, was filled with hatred at this vile act. He and his knights fought to the death, and beyond. He and his men returned to this world as revenants, vengeful spirits bound by their wish for vengeance. They marched upon the castle, but returned shortly after as they learned of Strahd von Zarovich's curse. Knowing that his enemy is essentially imprisoned in Barovia, Vladimir Horngaard knew he could do little worse to him. He and his knight set out to slay his agents and anyone who might ease Strahd's torment.
The Wandering Apocalypse has set out to return the bones of Argynvost and cleanse Argynvostholt.
