The Belt

The Belt, over two thousand miles long but at its widest point only about eighty miles wide is a land of woodes hills that limit the Great Desert to the south. Once part of the land of the mages and passed on to the light elves, it is mostly populated by humans.

The greatest treasure of this land, lying most east of it, are the Misty Mountains and the Grey Fortress that lies in these mountains.

Geography

The lands of the Belt are mostly low hills covered thickly in dense scrub and low trees. There are many springs and small streams that like to swell up in the frequent and heavy rains.

Fauna & Flora

Due to the closeness to the sea and its southern location, it is quite warm in this land all year round. For this reason most of the plants growing here are evergreen. Due to the frequent and heavy rains ad rainstorms however, their leaves are mostly small and robust.

History

In the earliest days of the mortal races, the Belt was part of the land of the mages. Even at that time however only few of them lived in these hills. Most of them lived in the lands to the south of the Belt.
When those lands were shattered at the very beginning of the Great Demonwar, most of the mages were thus swept away on the shattered remains of their homeland. In the ime of their absence, light elves and humans took up the task of guarding the lands of the Belt against the demons.

After the end of the Great Demonwar, many of the immortal spirits lay down their weapons in the Grey Fortress and swore an oath, never to use them again. At leat that is one of the many myths believed to be true of this place.
The task of guarding the fortress was offered to the mages as this was still their ancestral homeland. They however refused as they wished to take up residence on the now shattered Islands of the South-Eastern Sea. Instead they asked the task to be given to the light elves. These accepted the task and ade it their most sacred duty to guard the fortress which lay hundrets of miles from their own homelands. Thus many humans, who had fought alongside the light elves during the war, settled in the lands of the Belt as they had already adaped well to it. It were those men called southlanders by others of their kind, those that had lived in the south and amidst the light elves for many a year now.

In time however, as the Godking grew more ruthless, he demanded acces to the Grey Fortress and was denied this by the elves that guarded it. therefore he banished them and made mankind sole owners of this land. Yet the men that lived here felt closer to the elves than to other men and refused as well.
Since then the lands of the Belt have been rejecting all orders, offers and bribes by the Godking and his court. Some of those wishing to escape the grasp of the Godking have since fled south to find this land of wild freedom
